The epicenters in Europe have changed, from Italy and Spain to France and the UK with nearly a 1000 deaths each in the last 24 hours.

A contribution of C $ 340,000 (about one billion pesos) will be made by the Government of Canada to support the fight against the coronavirus in Colombia, especially to address the mental health challenges that have arisen as a consequence of the disease www.eluniversal.com.co/colombia/340-mil-dolares-canadienses-donara-ese-pais-para-lucha-contra-coronavirus-FE2655546Good to see. Hopefully more rich countries can lend support to Colombia. Colombia has gone to the World bank and the IMF to borrow much needed funds. Hopefully the majority of this money goes to the poor and middle class. no offense, but colombia is pretty corrupt, most the money will disappear. i wouldnt help until they get their house in order

Of what I'm reading many hospitals in the States aren't prepared with enough protective gear and N-95 face masks either.
Europe has similar problems. The speed with which the corona virus is hitting some countries is just unreal, no country is really prepared for this onslaught. Unfortunately much of the badly needed equipment was produced in China and with the present hostilities between China and Western powers, they aren't busting their butts to help us.

Since the virus was declared a pandemic a month ago on March 11, deaths have surged from 4.300 to more than 108.000.

Don't understand, premo, why you would address this article to me, if I understand you correctly, I'm happy with my Colombian family of the last four years and with my life here. I am also communicating regularly with my 35 year old daughter who lives in Tennessee and my only surviving relative in Germany, my cousin Renate who is nearly as old as I am. The reason for my posting activity on here is I read a lot, always did and being a polyglot makes it even more interesting, so I don't mind sharing some of the stuff. It has nothing to do with anxiety, I have been in many hair-raising situations and had many close calls in my sailing and flying days. I don't scare easy. What does worry me though, whatever happens and my Social Security comes to a screeching halt, our three girls, and the youngest is seven will be kicked out of college. Besides I'm feeding 8 hungry mouths in the family these days plus myself and a couple of single moms with 3 and 2 kids who are sworn to silence so we wouldn't have a lineup of people at the door. The more reasons to be careful of the virus because I'm the only one left with an income, everybody else is out of work.

I guess my point is you can only do so much like taking the proper precautions which I'm sure you are, but it seems to me that this has consumed you and you're worrying about something you can't control beyond what your already doing . Maybe it's just me, I was getting tired of hearing about Coronavirus and have tried to limit my exposure and only listen to the news for maybe 10 minutes a day..

Thats what I have been trying to explain to you for the last 2 weeks Cali. 95 % of these people dont have an extranjero helping them. Even the ones that have relatives overseas arent recieving remitances because their family overseas are all unemployed as well. I have never seen anything like this in my life. Maybe you have in East Germany. You cant expect all the Colombians to be sharing rice and beans with each other during this situation. Thats why I am leary the quarantine will be able to continue past the 27th.

Medics are saying that the lockdowns have reduced the common flu by over 70% so presumably some of the attributed corona virus deaths would have succumbed to that in normal times.

You're right, elex, the only way the quarantines can be extended much longer is when the government distributes food. But countries who can afford to help are leery now sending anything our way, they all know about the embezzlement and corruption here which became a national sport. Bill Gates said the virus hasn't really hit third world countries yet and when and if it does it will claim more lives than anyone can imagine. Hard to argue with that. It will most likely wipe out half the poor in every LA country, They haven't even solved malaria, dengue and tuberculosis, a bacteria that affects the lungs, yet. Now there are calls we will have a corona vaccination by the end of the year. Problem with developing vaccinations are side effects, what they've got so far will kill more people or cause more serious illnesses than the corona virus would. This particular corona virus is only three months old, extremely potent and fast moving and so tiny, thousand times smaller than the tiniest bacteria and can be seen only on an electron microscope, it makes research extremely difficult, never mind finding a vaccine. It was relatively easy for Robert Koch, a physician and bacteriologist, to discover the tuberculosis, cholera and anthrax bacteria on a regular microscope back in 1882, all were curable diseases soon after.

The rumor here is that China just had a meeting with President Moreno trying to get Ecuador to try a new vaccine its developed. Luckily Ecuador turned them down. You know it couldn't have been studied enough to know any side affects. Although they probably have tried it on there own people.
Im sure if this is true they will find some poorer or more corrupt country that will take them up on the offer.

Funny- there is a theory out thta this virus has always been there, but was lumped in with the all the "COVID" viruses associated with the "Common Flue" Not saying it hasnt got worse or mutated into a ore conatgious and possibly more deadly form

Come on Cali- another crazy wild-ass prediction.I really doubt they will wipe out half the population anywhere, even Africa. That is a gross exagertaion not even remotely predicted by the most pessimistic imunologist. They are figuring out from data in Italy, that because a tiny tiny portion of the population have been tested, and the ones that die are almost exclusively over 70 or have very severe prexisting conditions, that the amount of people that have it is many times the oficial rate, but the vast majority of people that heve it show moderate, little or no symptoms. This means that the actual fatality rate directly attributable to the disease - and not one of the other multiple sicknesses they have at the same time. is less than 1%. Lets do a little math here. Go to this site www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countriesWhat is the country with the highest death rate..Tiny San Marino with 1000 per million or just over 0.1%. The next highest is Spain at 363 per million or .03%. Lets assume the San Marino rate goes up by 10 times at the end of the day. An extremely out of the Ball Park worse than worse case scenario based on a very small densley populated country.. That means 1% of the population will die. Saying half the population in Latin America will be wiped out is as ridiculous as saying 20 billion people will die when ony 8 billion in the world exist.

I hope you are not telling your family that Cali, you will be driving someone to an unnecessary suicide. These people are so gullible and believe anything.

@calibust You've survived far worse than this, so stop panicking so much. I'd be very surprised if this virus even takes out half a percent of the poor population in Latin America.
Where I live they are only testing people who are very seriously ill, which tells me the REAL death rate to those who have been infected is extremely LOW.

I am trying to say what could happen, it was a bad formulation of words, sorry, no panic here. The world is only three months into the virus and we don't know when and how this pandemic is going to end. This unknown situation about the virus should not be ignored by wishful thinking, nor by the thousands of people who are trying to minimize the situation, comparing it with an other form of influenza. This virus is ten times more deadly and infects people a lot faster. This dude in the video who is trying to downplay the mass grave situation on Hart Island is trying to convince us the mass graves have nothing to do with corona deaths. So where did the more then 5000 corona victims in New York get buried, did the mainly poor families, with most of them out of work pay for elaborate burials they weren't even allowed to attend? I'll bet a great number of the 5000 bodies is resting in the mass grave on Hart Island. More and more European virologists say now we won't see the end of the endemic or the lock-downs until a reliable vaccination is in place. I wouldn't be so sure it came to an end in China, China has every reason to reestablish it's prestige and integrity in the world, the little it had. It is the great unknown that worries me a little. Will the virus in Colombia and in our neighboring countries just fade away trough-out the year or will we have a situation like Western Europe, like it happens in the UK at the moment. They of course don't have the massive amount of poor people like South America, so how really bad could it get on this continent, never mind in Africa. Take the comparatively few deaths in South Korea and Japan, countries who surely have reported reliable figures unlike China has. The reason for that should be clear, those folks are very disciplined and obey government rules of distancing, about the only protection we have, because face masks and gloves are not really helping, This virus is so tiny it penetrates the filters of the N-95 masks with no hindrance. Discipline and obedience of laws can't be applied to the endless millions of the uneducated poor in South America. They may walk very well into their own destruction because of their indifference and nonchalance, this prevailing trait that will keep this region forever in the third world.

Caliorbust: Would you passed stop pointing at South America and learn a few useful facts.
While it is true that the virus itself is tiny, it gets propagated in water droplets, which are big enough to be stopped by most mask and filters.
China is far from being the only country trying to establish some prestige and integrity. Just look at much of the bunk that has come out of te White House.
South America is relatively small and has no more poor or uneducated people than the USA. Colombia is doing much more in lockdowns and controls than most states are. The people are responding to the emergency when desperate measure are required.
