Not paranoid at all,my gf is from Shanghai, she lived in China through the SARS epedemic.I would think she is a lot more prepared to deal with a pandemic than most of us including you old mighty mountain man. As for the race card your right wing mentality has manifested into paranioa.Vancouver is a multicultural city, imigrahnts are what makes it special...unlike turniptown Saskabush home to the delusional reform.😁 Go burn a tire on a railroad track lefty.... Not a polluting anarchist lefty...unlike you I evolved with the times

Back to the virus, folks. Since the world revolves around Elex (sorry Elex, couldn't help myself), he can get up and leave at a moments notice, doesn't own anything here, isn't attached to anyone nor their family and he is under 70 and in excellent health which means an extremely low death rate if infected. Some of us do worry just a little bit when and if this worldwide menace is going to end.
In a sophisticated First World country like Italy and you might as well include South Korea, with an excellent health system the virus is no longer under control. Italy had 5 new deaths since yesterday with a total of 17 and 655 infected cases of which are 35 in critical condition. Only 35 have recovered so far. All of this happened because a Chinese couple visited Italy some time ago. It happened in northern Italy which is much more advanced and at par with Austria and Germany, unlike the southern part of Italy and Sicily, but now the virus has reached the Tuscany in central Italy and Sicily as well.
South Korea is doing somewhat better with 13 deaths and 18 critical cases but has 1766 infected people.
China claims only 32 dead since yesterday, with a steady decline of deaths as of a few days ago but no one knows how truthful these claims are.
Iran has 7 new deaths and a total of 26 now with 245 cases but remarkably none are critical.
60 cases in the USA, apparently none critical, or they would have been listed.
41 cases in Germany with one critical which has the country on edge.

I have about decided that governments know they cant stop it, so are just trying to control the spread somewhat so as to not overwhelm the medical system. From what I read the US isnt even doing regular testing of people with symptoms unless they get in serious condition. That's probably from recommendations of insurance companies not wanting to pay for all those tests.

The only positive about the virus spreading outside of China is we will soon understand alot more about the virus as China has not been very honest. As far as insurance companies not wanting to pay for test, I guess it would depend on the costs of the test vs the number of people and cost to pay for care and paying for additional people who would be infected- so I don't know..

Just an off the wall thought. Mike Pence is now in charge of an upcoming avalanche of cases. If it gets really bad Trump will blame him for mismanaging the response and ask for his resignation. He will appoint Nikki Haley as the new VP.

A popular game that allows players to create a virus and spread it worldwide has been pulled from Apple's App Store in China, its developer said, as the country battles a real-life epidemic.
Users based in China could not download "Plague Inc" on Friday after the cyberspace watchdog ordered its removal over "illegal" content, UK-based Ndemic Creations said.
Ndemic said it was not clear if the decision was linked to the deadly new coronavirus outbreak, which began in central China in December. "We have a huge amount of respect for our Chinese players and are devastated that they are no longer able to access and play Plague Inc," Ndemic said.

Could you imagine if this virus gets loose on the homeless streets of Los Angeles or San Francisco?

Supposedly the virus does not like warm/hot weather - things get bad - will just stay in Pintada for an extended period - see how the virus likes 95 degrees every day.

The thing people have to remember is the reason the 'flu' and other virus are more prevalent in the winter months is because the homes and buildings are enclosed with little fresh air exchange. There was a fellow on the old gringos.com forum from here in PA. He worked in HVAC systems and can probably explain it a lot better than me.

The sky is falling, the market is plunging and so are Trumps ratings. He's c his thumbing his nose at the virus;the virus doesn't care if it's warm or cold outside as long as it has a warm body to grow in.

Viruses come and go, Trump is here to stay. He should sign an executive order to allow for a 3rd term...

The flight from Wuhan landed a couple of nights ago at the airforce base Catam near Bogotá where the entire planeload of people went into a 2 week quarantine in an isolated building. Let's hope 2 weeks is sufficient and no one is able to buy his way out of the quarantine.
Worldwide 85.473 cases with 2924 deaths (soon to be 3000) in 60 countries No end in sight for newly infected countries outside China.
Italy 889 confirmed cases with 21 deaths and 64 critical
705 on the Diamond Princess, 6 deaths, 38 critical
Iran 388 cases with 34 deaths
Japan 240 cases, 5 deaths, 20 critical
Germany 75 cases, 2 critical, about a 1000 in-home quarantined
USA 66 cases , 1 critical
3 cases in Mexico now
Latest discoveries show the virus can be transmitted not only by sneezing or coughing near you, but also by a virus carrier talking in your immediate vicinity, even if the carrier has absolutely no symptoms. That is anything but encouraging. That means people may someday go into complete isolation in their homes. Schools, our colegios and universities closed, public transportation systems are avoided or shut down, all airlines grounded, deserted streets, people stop going to work, run out of money, companies closing and what if people run out of food supplies and water they stocked up, with empty shelf's in grocery stores? Home invasions by trying to steal food... Could a virus really be that destructive?

Just am a little more cautious than the rest of you guys, Elex, because I meet every single criteria of a critical virus case.
You mentioned Gringoloyd, wonder on what forum he is now, interesting fellow, probably hoarding gold right now.

The Democrat wackos are quick to politicize Coronavirus and blame Trump and criticise his response, yet they support an open border-what morons.. Come on in, bring your virus and don't worry we'll pay for your healthcare, housing, needles, daycare, and throw in food stamps and free college. Come one Come all..

premonition said: With all the cases going on in Italy, the other members of the EU are looking to lock up their borders until this has passed. Funny how President Trump was ostracized for wanting to do this yet the rest of the world is seriously considering it!

You look ata bell curve of new cases in China it has gone from zero and peaked an crested down to very low in a 5 week period. www.cbc.ca/news/world/coronavirus-covid-19-containment-who-1.5478766It is just starting to go up in the rest of the world, but if it is like China, it will be over fast. Maybe as NJ Robbie says , it will be a buying opportunity in the Stock Market in 1 to 3 months. Keep an eye out

China used rigorous isolation procedures to prevent the spread of the virus any further, procedures that no western oriented country can get away with because of human rights violations. Theories as to where this is going are all over the place. A leading German bacteriologist thinks the virus will eventually infect two thirds of the world population equal to flue epidemics unless a vaccination is discovered, which has not materialized for the SARS virus. And it has been established now that the corona virus is a lot more deadly than the flue virus considering the number of infections. The bacteriologist also claims that infections will diminish as it warms up and will return in full force by next winter.
So far the Corona virus has claimed the lives of 15% of over 80 year olds and 8% of over 70 year olds, a percentage of age groups that usually has more serious preexisting conditions. This should be excellent news for health insurance companies who are bogged down with claims of the elderly and their numerous health problems.

Just got his 15 minutes of fame. Just like the economist that predicted 15 of the last 2 recessions....
