An example why the numbers of corona infections given are so unreliable because they depend largely on the capability to test as many people as possible to follow up on contacts the infected person had and to arrest further spread of the virus.
Who knows how high the unknown numbers of infections in South American countries are in reality because tests are cumbersome and time consuming unless countries have the new rapid test equipment but manufacturers in California and in Germany (Bosch) can't keep up with the demand, besides they are expensive.

News is China went peddling their 'kits' and their ventilators to countries like Italy and Germany in an propaganda effort. Unfortunately they didn't work. I suspect they bought them or we will be seeing them for sale at Harbor Freight!

That's a good one about Harbor Freight. Russia has actually gone out of it's way to help Italy in their corona tragedy by sending them 9 military cargo planes with medical equipment and 100 specialists. The Russians don't expect to be paid for the equipment some day, they say, but they hope that Italy will make an effort in a European Union setting to help getting Russia's sanctions lifted.

480 Iranians have died, not of the corona virus but by drinking methanol, an industrial type alcohol, after reading fake news on social sites that methanol will prevent the corona infection.

Scum..maybe go to Mayo Clinic site, WHO site , John Hopkins site, Mediweb site, Healthline site instead of the Tinfoil hat brigade webpages. There is enough garbage out there being posted by nutbars that people can make any argument they want. Like , for example the Chinese did this on purpose Who do you go to when you are looking for a solution to a wastewater treatment problem? The Degremont Handbook? Or Breibart website? Or maybe National Enquirer?

The director of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, anticipates millions of corona infected people in the United States. Based on the current situation, there is a possibility that 100,000 to 200,000 people will die as a result of the pandemic, Fauci told CNN today Sunday.

Large population density and high mobility of people was and is a decisive reason for the rapid spread of a virus.
Unfortunately most every one in Colombia is shunning villages and outlying areas, the trend is to live in a city - see Bogotá.
Duque's decision to quarantine the country should be applauded then this menace isn't over by a long shot, it's only the beginning.
Trump still didn't get it, he is to concerned about the economy, he has no idea what he is in for.

Based on the current situation, there is a possibility that 100,000 to 200,000 people will die as a result of the pandemic, Fauci told CNN today Sunday. Talk about a gross misquotation Dr Anthony Fauci, the face of the Trump administration's coronavirus task force, made the prediction on Sunday. "Looking at what we're seeing now, I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths," he told CNN. But he quickly urged caution. "I don't want to be held to that," he said. "It's such a moving target." www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52086378

But eventualiy, after months of deprivation of freedom, liberty, human rights and economic damage and collapse, people ar going to say "Sod it" and revolt, let the old buggers die (even if it is me).. Why do you think people risk their lives (at a much higher risk level than the virus) to break out of concentration camps, POW camps, Gulags, prisons, insane asylums, etc.?

So you are comparing being quarantined in your own house or apartment to a concentration camp? I guess it depends on what kind of wife or girlfriend your living with..

Elex you and scum are people who enjoy outdoor activities and you seem totally frustrated being confined to the house. You live alone these days and it couldn't have been at a worst time. At least scum has a wife in the house and a dog to take care of. I think the image I dedicated to you describes you well, I wasn't being cynical. Some of us are more relaxed at home, surrounded by family, pets maybe, an aquarium, birds, some kind of collection, something to worry about and occupy ourselves with. I for one love to read and never get tired of it. Had a huge collection of books in Southern California where I lived for 35 years and a complete collection of National Geographic magazines starting at 1913, donated them all to the local library before I left. I've been downloading free PDF books for our daughter who can't put a book down for very long and for my self too and have long meaningful conversations with her, giving her classes in English and Geography, now that her semester is most likely over. We also have the National Geographics library in CD's. When I get tired of reading or looking at the news from three different countries I fix up Laptops or cell phones for the Kids and family, have a small collection of them I bought as repairable units or for parts from e-bay, most of them Lenovo Thinkpads or iPhone's s6. Just ordered a hard-drive from Mercado Libre two days ago. Servientrega has remained in service during the quarantine. My 35 year old daughter from Tennessee called yesterday she would like some pictures from the days she was riding horses (she got her first pony when she was three and a half) so I went through a huge collection of picture files from my kids in the US and am correcting color, contrast and what else is needed with Photoshop before sending them.
You should really try to find something to do at home. The quarantine is long from over.

You should really try to find something to do at home. The quarantine is long from over. You make a lot of assumptions lie I am alone and dont have anything to do in the house. I am a fitness nut and need cardio Vascular activities. I climb the stairs (19 pisos )in this aparment complex, but some Santanderaño Envidioso Sapos reported me (us actually) to the Vigilantes. Now We will have to climb the stairs in the enclosed stairwell, a lot less air, statr at 6 am. and only go from Floor 5 to 19, because the Sapos are on the first few floors- they are just trying to save time not taking the elevator to bring the garbage down. This may be normal for you, but it actually reminds me of stories my Aunt and Dad told me about the occupation in Holand during WW2.

Elex, if you don't live alone more power to you, glad I was wrong. You could buy a stationary bike from Mercado Libre, didn't check what other exercise equipment they have, we bought one for around 800.000 some time ago and Servientrega still delivers. Be careful Sapos don't call the authorities on you, climbing all those stairs every day you're actually breaking quarantine laws and as a foreigner, some Colombians think it was us who brought them the virus because so many of us were traveling in the exterior. I think to exercise we are allowed outside and in a secluded areas if we can stay away from people. I suspect this quarantine is far from over on April 13 if the virus keeps spreading daily but the infection rate depends entirely on how many people are tested which seems to be the criteria now to arrest the virus some day. It's the unknown number of infections who keep spreading the virus big time which are a large concern now.

One more thing, I am well aware how Canadians feel about Germans, I had first hand experience when I lived 7 years in Canada during the sixties, in Calgary, Red Deer and the last 4 years in Vancouver. Even got arrested twice, had to go to Court to explain to the Judge why I bought a six-pack of beer for an Indian in a liquor store. The Indian handed me the money and I saw no reason to turn him down because those stores kept a register on clients and cut them off when they reached their limit. I told the Judge in my best English of the time; "Your Honor, I didn't know the law prohibits selling beer to Indians". Practiced that one for hours. Lucky for me he let me go, because the penalty was substantial. The second time I spent a day in jail because I ignored a traffic ticket for $10 for driving with one headlight. But man, in the beer parlors they were still fighting WW2, just as well I didn't understand the half of it.
Elex, I noticed you keep thinking about my 'Nazi past' when you read my posts. The truth is I don't like the Nazis anymore than you do, I'm glad they hung some of the worst bastards and feel bad that so many were able to escape to South America and lived out their life, like that damn Mengele. I lost my dad and 2 uncles on the Russian front when I was 3, my grandfather in WW1 at age 24, know them only from pictures. Spent many nights in bomb shelters. Grew up in post war Germany in poverty, in the Russian occupied part mind you, my mom struggling to keep as two alive. I was 6 months when the war started and 6 years old when it ended. Why people would point the finger at me for Nazi atrocities is hard to understand. Have one good memory though when my uncle Walter, dad's only brother came home from the Africa Corps at war's end without a scratch and actually lived to be 94.

I was planning on going to Berlin in May. One of the highlights of the trip was going to be visiting the museums and learning more about WW1 and WW2. Maybe next year... The war museum in London is amazing.
Vancouver has changed a bit since the 60's Red Deer and Calgary are about the same tho

It's the unknown number of infections who keep spreading the virus big time which are a large concern now. They only let people walking dogs for 20 or 30 minutes outside. I am thinking about putting an add in the complex to rent someones dog (one that one big and runs fast) so I can run for 40 minutes a day. For now I will stick to the enclosed stairwell floors 5 to 19 at & or 7 AM. I went there 6 days before we went to the open stairwell, and only saw a cleaning woman between 1st and 3rd floors.I doubt there will be any Sapos there. As far as calling the "Authorities" and shipping people out of the country, you are believing all the old wive tale chismes. The vigilante basically made it like he didnt really care, its only the people who were avoding the elevator between 1 and 3 who made a stink about it. If we go where nobody notices us, nothing will happen. Besides the cops have no jurisdiction inside the building anyway, building rules apply and it is up to the vigilantes to enforce thm if they want. As far as shipping foreigners out, that is ludicrous. Just how are they going to do that with all the roads , airports and everything else closed? You sound like my maid, she says they are shipping Venezuelans back to Venezuela, suposedly with army transport. Turns out this is just another fantastic Colombian old wives chisme
