3rd foreigner in less than a month. didn't the article say that he lived at the hotel where he was found? I assume he either ran or owned the hotel. Perhaps there is something fishy going on.

According to my sources there was indeed some unusual circumstances leading up to his death. He lived in his boutique hotel in Medellin. Not an easy guy to get to know by any means, he did not have many close friends here in Colombia or anywhere else I would imagine. RIP Mitch

I have no idea if this is the case with this guy - but is heroin a big/new problem in Medellin? It is killing all sorts of people in the US - all ages, all walks of life, they may have an injury, get hooked on painkillers and then morph to heroin when they find it is actually cheaper.

My wife and I stayed at his hotel eight years ago. We met him back then, but never kept in touch afterwards. We liked the hotel and Mitch was an excellent host. I believe he had a number of health issues that may have contributed to his death. RIP, Mitch.

It's actually four foreigners that have died in less than a month in Medellín under suspicious circumstances. First one from Spain, then one from Switzerland and now the latest two from Canada and the US. See (in Spanish): www.lafm.com.co/nacional/noticias/cuatro-extranjeros-muertos-en-205393 Here's from another recent news report, the city is investigating: Dozens of complaints have come to the Police and the Ministry of Security of Medellíin, alerted to packages of sex tourism and drug tourism, which would be offered in at least 180 hotels and apartments located in areas such as El Poblado and El Centro in Medellín. The mayor of Medellin, Federico Gutierrez, ordered an investigation into the death of Willie René Breausus, American citizen 57 years of age, who died in an apartment in the neighborhood of El Poblado, allegedly by a drug overdose that would have been consumed in the company of two sex workers. The authorities also announced an investigation to determine whether it is allowing civilians to exchange money at the Monaco building, which belonged to Pablo Escobar and is now in custody of the police. However, General Jose Gerardo Acevedo, commander of the Metropolitan Police, argued that the photos where they appear several foreign consuming liquor in Monaco building, were taken over three years ago, when the institution did not have custody of the structure. While announcing a crackdown on sites dedicated to drug tourism, the authorities confirmed that there are now at least two foreigners that have died in strange circumstances in Medellin. Police are trying to determine whether these people died from drug overdose, and whether they had contacted networks dedicated to offering sex tourism plans. Unfortunately it's only when foreigners start dying that the authorities in Colombia will be forced to address the issues. They really don't give a toss about the Colombians who die in similar circumstances everyday - but a few foreign newspapers running stories that could stop the flow of dollars and it'll be looked into.

I can understand there being dozens of complaints. They really need to shutdown places that cater to sex tourism and drug tourism in the city and deport some bad characters. I have even heard there are a couple small hotels located near the Hard Rock Cafe in El Poblado that cater exclusively to sex tourists - places like this should be shutdown and some arrests made and/or deportations. This would send a clear message.

colombiana I live close to Hard Rock Cafe, i do not know, where there are hotels for sex tourists. Perhaps some people are renting apartments or rooms. Mitch had his own hotel. If there is a legal hotel who is renting a room to a foreigner and he his coming with a prepago who is not minor, I do not see a problem. Whats their wrong doing? I`s a problem, if there are apartments where they party with hookers till 5 am and the families living there could not sleep, because of the lord music or people are making lot of noise in the apartments.

There are two "bed and breakfast" houses near Hard Rock which have girls on premise available for prostitution. They have been there for over 10 years and to find them all you have to do is search/read any sex monger internet site. Sex tourists are totally catered there and some never leave the house. They are well known.

I overheard some obnoxious older gringos (obvious mongers) with several young and scantily clad chicas while in a restaurant recently in Parque Lleras. These gringos were talking about all the prepagos at the pool at where they were staying -- a place they called "The Mansion". They were speaking English and saying totally rude things and didn't realize at the table next to them were several Colombian women that speak English fluently. It made me sick and angry to experience this. (Name and info deleted) (we don't need to be giving any advertisement for these places) From what I overheard this establishment caters just to sex tourists. This is clearly not something the city wants. I see a problem as pimping is illegal in Colombia. They are charging fees for their rooms and services including the availability of hookers - sounds like pimping to me even if they aren't taking a cut. IMHO these places should be shutdown and the owners kicked out of the country. If there isn't an ordinance they are breaking, quickly create one making it completely illegal to promote sex tourism and offer hookers onsite and just shut them down. Plus get their customer list and block these obvious sex tourists from returning to the country.

colombiana yes, there was an australian guy who stated the Mansion. But I haven`t heard a long time from it (because I`m happy married to a colombiana) and I have never been with hookers.

about 10 years ago while planning my first trip to Medellin ( back before the great recession) I was traveling to look at some apartments for sale, I believe I was on PBH forum then and asked for small hotel reservation recommendation, somebody emailed me and I believe recommended the place Colombiana was talking about. Got on line and checked out their site, looked OK, quiet, but noticed a lot of women in the pictures, I was a little slow to get it at first, but after a few more clicks realized with an up charge the rooms came with what looked like a hot looking twenty something Colombiana. Was going through a divorce at the time so at first I thought " Viva Medellin!" but calmed down a made a wiser choice and stayed at the Affinity. I guess some things don't change.

It would have just made them laugh. Better to let them die like others. Then Mommy gets the phone call about how her little Johnny was a bad boy.

elexpatriado this particular thread is about some gringos that have passed away. I think we should all show some respect. These people that have died have friends and family and possibly some of our members know them. If you want to talk about pedos, mongers, sex tourists etc. please start a new thread in The PIT.......... but please don't post real names of individuals or business names. We don't want to put Colombia Connections in a position where it might attract legal action or censorship from our service provider.

You must be kidding me..? the guy was a freakin child molester..he makes XXXX XXXX and XXXXX XXXX look like Angels. As far as I am concerned, he can rot in hell, if he truly is dead. That's besides the point if admins do not want you posting names that might entangle them in legal hassles they don't want to be part of. You need to respect that, whatever the despicable nature of those charcters.
