Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has decreed that all Fridays for the next two months will be holidays, in a bid to save energy in the blackout-hit OPEC country. "We'll have long weekends," Maduro said in an hours-long appearance on state television on Wednesday night, announcing the measure as part of a 60-day plan to fight a power crunch. A severe drought, coupled with what critics say is a lack of investment and maintenance in energy infrastructure, has hit the South American nation, which depends on hydropower for 60 percent of its electricity. The opposition in Venezuela slammed the new four-day work week as reckless in the face of a bitter recession, shortages of foods and medicines, and triple-digit inflation. Now they won't be saying, "Thank GOD it's Friday!"
They will be saying, "Thank Maduro it's Friday!"

I wonder how many businesses wil finally close now they are about to suffer 20% less productivity. Eventually that place is going to erupt into a long drawn out civil war.

The only good that might come of this is, if people want to eat they will have to find a way to make money. The birth of small business entrepreneurs. Try to get an economy outside the government and oil. Of course as soon as a business is profitable the government would loot it.

Since it is a decree as a hoilday that means the companies have to still pay the workers?

Until the opposition manage to remove him then it will stay the same, the army will play to the highest bidder and Maduro is not exactly swimming in oil cash the way Chavez was. I reckon Maduro could well see out his term but it's not going to be peaceful or prosperous.

Not a good situation for the general population. I would think your average Vennie would be a bit nervous about the future.
