Full title wouldn't fit... "NATIONAL Petro announces popular mobilizations to confront violence" From the article: “Next year we will be with the popular mobilization against violence and with the process of replacing illicit economies with legal ones,” said the president." I remember dragging DoS guys around Afghanistan who were trying to do the same thing. They wanted to replace poppy with Saffron. Didn't work out to well. From the article: "Petro proposed an interethnic pact to strengthen unity and prevent fissures from being exploited by those who seek to control territories for drug trafficking." This guy and many other just do not seem to get it. Even if one managed to get rid of the "Illicit trade", I'm thinking the bandits will do what the Mexicans are doing, take over other trades, like the avocado thing. The only way to end this is to end the bandits. Be well! diariodelhuila.com/petro-anuncia-movilizaciones-populares-para-hacerle-frente-a-la-violencia/

The issue, like we saw in Afghanistan, is there really isn't any "good" replacement for poppy and/or cocaine when it comes to effort vs reward. These dudes, from the growers, processors and dealers make pretty good cash and legal stuff won't make as much, not to mention the bureaucracy of running a legit business, easier to bribe politocs and cops.
It is the same issue with the "peace process".
The bandit leaders all get a pretty good deal...seats in congress or simply wander away with their millions after maybe serving a few minutes under house arrest in their finca. However the average neanderthal with an AK-47 has nothing...but as an average neanderthal with an AK-47, they have perceived power and can terrorize the unarmed folks in the little backwaters taking what they want. Why should these neanderthals' trade that for some crap job making minimum wage and having to be "disrespected" by some jerkoff rollo?
This stuff just boggles my mind and they keep trying to do this peace thing without defeating the enemy. My opinion is it isn't going to ever work. People react to pain, either physical or financial, nothing else really works.
Okay, soapbox put away...lol...be well.

Rural security and basic law and order should be the number one priority of every elected official in this sad sack of a country.
Instead we get flowery words and grand concepts from politicians whose agenda is pursuing personal prosperity through public means. As far as effectiveness goes, Petro and his ilk are all arepa, no empanada. Virtue signalers all--apparently that's what gets them elected.
I used to be sympathetic and hopeful about the situation here. Colombians have been very badly used by their government for a very long time. I couldn't see how it was tolerated or could continue. Then my esposa Colombiana would just smile and nod with sad wise eyes that said "you gringos are so naive".
