One would think the government would step in and enforce the regulations, especially since it is easy to trace this stuff in the water back to the businesses.
Colombia would be cooler if it weren't for Colombians...however I suppose that could be said for anywhere really.
The only conclusion I have is that the Colombian people enjoy, or at least are willing to tolerate this as they are not voting to change it.
Then they flee to somewhere else where it is "better" instead of trying to make changes here. Be well.

daluz said: Are you kidding? They would be cutting off their nose to spite their face! Government reps are no doubt getting a kickback from the oil/gold 'diggers.' These characters learned what worked and what didn't from the Narcos. They can get away with subtle corruption here, until they 'bump-off' the wrong person. Then you will see those congressional wonks sliding up to the eco-people like they were those indigenous kids in the aircrash!

It is definitely a different mindset than mine, but then again I suppose today is a different time and the world is a different place.
I grew up on John Wayne movies and good guys winning and pretty much drank the USA Kool Aid. I couldn't imagine running from a fight as a young man and spent my time in the service and later as a civilian cop. One is supposed to stand up to the bad guys and all that.
I get old folks and kids needing to be evacuated but fighting aged males are not the same dudes as before.
I suppose an incredibly corrupt government and it's inability or reluctance to eliminate the criminal groups probably has some part in the young people not wanting fight.
However I do wholeheartedly agree when one moves to another location, one needs to abide by that locations rules. You are not going to see me waving US flags while running up and down the street lighting stuff on fire.
Yup, different times and attitudes for sure. Be well!
