From the WSJ article
"Kenemore, who requires medication for a brain injury he suffered in a 2016 car accident,"
OK.that probably explains it all..

Yeah, I think I understand when young people do stupid stuff as well, they are young and life hasn't given them a football style kick to the groin yet. However the older folks, like 59 year old chain wearing guy, man, he really should have known better. Sad either way as one should be able to freely wander around, but reality isn't like that. Be well.

gringos and many europeans are clueless and live in a bubble....the " half full" side.... they see only the pretty things in life,... not the ugly or reality....and when something bad happens .... they cant understand why.
i remember about 8 years ago, met a blond girl from the US... traveling around colombia,,,peru, ecuado by herself.. just a big backpack. i asked her.. dont you think thats a little dangerous.. young girl traveling around to these countries.. by yourself ? she just looked at me and said " why.. whats the problem"

I met an Australian woman doing the same about 9 years ago. She even went to Venezuela I am sure nothing happened to either of them, but they really have no clue statistically of the risks they are taking. People should at least be aware, and acept the risk and their own decisions. Some people ar more risk averse, others not. But dont come crying when things go astray afterwards. Like the guys in the Venezuean prisons in te WSJ article. Take responsibility for your own dumb decisions.
