Well, I got caught by surprise.
Remodeling the house and as it is pretty hot where we are, decided to buy a Remmington solar powered whole house extractor fan for the attic. The one I wanted would not ship via Amazon, so I went ahead and bought it via MY US SHOPPING, which is a frieght forwarder.
No drama with the purchase, was $316 and another $45 to ship it...in all fairness it is a pretty big fan measuring 2'x2'. The drama starts when I need to pay another $150 usd for import duty.
I get it, or get the way it should work. If an object is made in country, no issues with import duty. Like if I were to import coffee, I get it, I can buy coffee here, so force me to pay duty. But I looked, no solar power roof mount attic fans made here in Colombia so I figure I'm good. No, I'm an idiot...chuckle.
Appears the duty was based on the price...anything over $200 usd and you gotta pay import duty. Not the end of the world, but just feels icky. Be well!

Yes.. I am always confused because The US and Colombia have a free trade agreememn. I remember when it was passed that some things like autos phased in over 10 years. But was my understanding the import taxes would go away.

Yeah, lesson learned, but it is a really cool solar attic fan, so not really to upset.
Actually thought it was a scam attempt at first based on the email that was sent, looked really shady. Called FedEx direct and got it squared away.
