I took this from a Reddit post...thought the person had some good observations. old.reddit.com/r/ColombiaReddit/comments/14szgmy/petro_nos_llev%C3%B3_de_regreso_al_pasado/"-Once again, the news shows tens or hundreds of displaced families every week in Cauca, Chocó, NDS, Arauca or Caquetá -Terrorist attacks in various parts of the country, including Bucaramanga today -Kidnappings and murders of police officers and soldiers practically every day in various parts of the country. Today an Army Sergeant with her two children (one autistic) in Arauca. -Daily confrontations between various criminal gangs in Buenaventura, Urabá, Atlántico (including Barranquilla). -Daily confrontations between peasants and indigenous people in Valle and Cauca. -Extortion of small merchants, motorcycle taxi drivers and other small businessmen in all the capitals, including Bogotá. -Overwhelming insecurity in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla. -Did we go back to 1996?" If this is the case, I'd at least like to be 27 years younger...be well!

Its looking a lot like the first time I came to Colombia in 2002 or 2003. Urebe was president and security improved dramattically over the course of his presidency. It wasnt safe to drive outside the major cities and many check points. Security is somewhat better now but sliding a lot in the last year. I cant imagine 3 more years of these policies.

At the current time there is a slim and no chance he would be reelected. Its ust how much more he can screw things up the next 3 years.
