I always thought of moths being sort of gray or brown but it turns out some are very colorful and the shapes and sizes are amazing too. No one can know the true number but it is estimated that there are around 27,000 species in Colombia. That would be seven times the number of butterfly species. I started photographing the ones that come to my front porch at night a while back. I've photographed a little over 1500 species so far and just put up a Smugmug site to show those that I've gotten identified so far ordered by family: mothsofcolombia.smugmug.com/. With more than 1200 yet to be identified you can certainly call it a work in progress.
