I have been making kombucha at home for a while. I have made many different flavors including papaya, strawberry, peach, mango and my favorite is ginger/lemon.
I saw on the internet that they are now selling bottles of coffee kombucha. The commercial manufacturers say they have been experimenting for two years and have perfected the process by using a cold brew system. The Koffbucha retails at 6 bucks for a 330 ml bottle.
I am a big fan of the KISS principle so I just made my normal kombucha brew and at the bottling stage I added 2 teaspoons of regular instant coffee powder and 1 teaspoon of sugar to carbonate the bottle.
I have to say it turned out pretty bloody good.
It was my stepson's birthday today so I had lots of family and friends as captive guinea pigs and they all gave it a thumbs up!

Are you writing down your procedures and measurements? I may need a recipe. Bring me a couple samples when I get back. LOL I will check my scoby when I get home to make sure its still alive.

scumbuster I have heaps of scobys so don't worry if yours have died from neglect and abandonment jajaja. I haven't written anything down because it is so simple! I am currently making a double brew (2 x 1 gallon jars = 16 half litre bottles) every week. Now, because the coffee kombucha was successful, my wife wants me to make some chocolate kombucha! Maybe you can babysit my kombucha hotel when I go away next month?

Colcafe is the coffee of choice in our household. Instant ....straight off the supermarket shelf. I don't drink much coffee and I am not really fussy about brands but for some reason a coffee always tastes much nicer if someone else makes it.

Robusta beans usually go into making instant coffee. I prefer arabica which is what (the late)Juan Valdez is toting around!

Well barru, colcafe seemingly gets the nods over the less desirable nescafe instand....mixed up with your mother scoby shouldn't be able to tell the difference no matter what you use. Coffee coldbrews are another subject.

Instant is a poor substitution for real drip coffee. I can only drink instant if there is nothing else available. But as flavoring in kombucha it might be good.

gallito you should get into the kombucha. It's not hard to do, doesn't cost much and is very healthy.
