MOSCOW - Russia has maintained its military-technological cooperation with Venezuela and Cuba through safeguarding major weapons contracts with the two countries, despite the approach between Havana and Washington, as well as the economic challenges in Venezuela, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Wednesday.
The Russian official said in an interview with Rossiya-24 "We are developing aviation projects with Cuba, and we have extended a loan to them for creating their own power generation industry.
"We have major contracts with Venezuela, despite the problems that the country is experiencing as a major oil exporter," he added.
"Despite these sanctions, we have maintained a high level of military-technological cooperation and made good money for our budget," Rogozin stressed.
Previously Moscow provided Cuba with a loan of 1.2 billion euros (around $1.36 billion) for the construction of several generators for power plants on the Caribbean island.
Cuba must return the loan within ten years at an interest rate of 4.5 percent.
Among other projects in Cuba, Russia is interested in taking part in the modernization of the Mariel port and the construction of an airport cargo terminal at the airport of San Antonio de los Banos.
Russia, which is trying to establish the close cooperation that Moscow and Havana held at the time of the Soviet Union, values the normalization of diplomatic ties between Cuba and the United States, and insists that the United States must lift the embargo imposed against the island.

Russia is always looking after their own interests;never one to let the U.S cozy up with a client.

Cuba is in the middle of a tricky 'threesome'.......and will probably benefit from the admiration of two 'suitors'.
