nickdanger your novia is probably well aware that the police frown on these private taxis. She needs to be very careful .......... if taxi drivers spot her dropping off passengers more than once or twice they will put her in.

Speaking of private taxis, I just found out on Christmas Eve that Uber is now available in Medellin. My wife used an Uber car from Envigado to Sabaneta when reggular taxis were not available late night.

In the small town where I live the police turn a blind to many local 'private' taxis that park near the supermercados and offer rides to people with arm loads of groceries, but they (the police) sometimes put roadblocks to catch illegal taxis on the main road to Zipa, Chia and Bogota. Many years ago my wife caught a ride with a private taxi with six people on board. The driver said to his clients, "Remember ..... if the police stop us ..... you are all cousins and I am your uncle."

ND - the cops at MDE at pretty hard ass at times and are fairly observant - if she is making weekly or more frequent trips to MDE - one of them will notice, if she is only going a couple times a month - she can probably skate by. Our driver ( one handed) who is a primo , drives a yellow cab from Medellin and had an issue once picking up my wife last year - going forward he is very observant of the rules - he had a parking issue - but it seems they are keeping a pretty good eye out - maybe they make a commission on the fines.

Where I live in Buenos Aires everything pretty much goes. People pretty much do as they please, whether they care about the repercussions or not, I don't know.
But they openly take the risks. I don't think the police actively enforce it here but I do see road stops often, mostly pulling over motorcycles to check their documentation. (I saw a whole truck loaded with motorcycles confiscated here once).
Based on that I think she might be okay, after all Medellin is pretty big, and unless she were to confine herself to a small area or get in an accident where questions are
asked, she' probably get by for who knows how long.

Quick access to Las Palmas and Rio Negro.

The only thing I would be worried about, is does her insurance cover commercial passangers?
