Sabanata returns to banning male passengers on motorcycles. The increase in thefts by use of motorcycles, which in the course of the year and with respect to 2015 has increased by 20 percent, led to the Mayor of Sabaneta to decree, once again, the temporary prohibition of traffic by that municipality ff motorcyclists with male passengers. The measure, which began to run from last Thursday and will run until 31 January, is justified by a 26 percent increase in robberies of people during the same period. As another argument to establish Decree 323 of December 14, 2016, which revives the prohibition, the Ministry of Government, speaks of protecting the community and take preventive measures, restricting male passengers to prevent crime. "This means of transport is the most commonly used to commit crimes or criminal behavior," says the agency, by Marcela Castañeda. Sabaneta joins Envigado with the implementation of the measure, which last August extended it until January 31, 2017. On the other hand, in Medellín the prohibition was lifted in August 2015, by order of the Administrative Court of Antioquia that considered that this restriction did not contribute to the restoration of public order. In Itagüí the prohibition is also in force, except during pico y placa schedules; And in Rionegro, the Mayor decreed the restriction for both male and female passengers. See (in Spanish): www.elcolombiano.com/antioquia/sabaneta-vuelve-a-prohibir-el-parrillero-hombre-en-motos-GG5594686So now in the Medellín area, Sabaneta, Envigado, Itagüí and Rionegro have a restriction in place.

That's one thing the family has warned me about - be careful with the moto - thefts are way up. I try not to ride it too much in the city - not sure if moto theft is such an issue outside the big cities - any issues in La Ceja , Retiro and towns of similar size?
I would guess they are stealing motos to strip the parts to sell.

Now I hope this pressures the rest of Medellin to impose this restriction on a full time basis! I mean c'mon! You see the rate of armed robbery go up via moto passengers and do nothing about it? The Administrative Court in Medellin is suffering from a severe case of 'cranial rectitus'!!!!!

Many who ride motos cannot afford other transportation modes and have a need to move their family and friends in this manner. 99% of moto owners/riders do not commit armed robbery.

Need to go back to the plate #s on the helmets and vests for driver and passenger. Also enforce the traffic laws and toll fees on all motos.
Saying the poor moto owners cant afford it is BS.
