During the rolling quarter from August to October 2016, the unemployment rate in the Valle de Aburrá was 9.4%, or 0.6% less than that reported for the same period last year.
This figure reported yesterday by DANE for the Medellín metropolitan area is the lowest for that rolling quarter, at least since 2001.
In the reference period, there were 191 thousand unemployed, about 9,000 less than last year. It was also reported that in the valley of Aburrá 1.84 million people declared to have work, against the 1.80 million of equal period of 2015.
This result occurs even when the Global Participation Rate (TGP) was maintained for the two years at 84%, i.e. the result denotes labor absorption.
However, there is a figure to take into account: the number of inactive people grew by 15 thousand people, when comparing the inter-annual data.
DANE revealed that the sector that generated the most employment for the rolling quarter in the metropolitan area was construction with 31 thousand more jobs, compared to the data for 2015. It was followed by transportation (17,960) and real estate (13,860) and industry (9,517 ).

However, the unemployment figure for October alone in Colombia was 8.3%, an increase of 011% compared to that recorded in the same month of 2015. However, the seasonally adjusted data, which is more reliable because it eliminates temporary effects, points out that the national rate was 9.3% and increased by 0.09%.
In that sense, in the tenth month of the year there were 2.8 million Colombians nationwide seeking employment, some 29 thousand more than the tenth month of 2015, while there were 22.11 million employed.
