What did you find interesting about this survey? I found it interesting that most gringos living in Medellín live somewhere other than El Poblado. Perhaps because the gringos living here don't like to associate with the gringos visiting Medellín that dress pretty poorly in my opinion --- gringo visitors staying in El Poblado seem to like shorts, Tshirts and flip-flops that I see frequently in El Poblado.

What I would be curious to know - how many ex-pats live in Medellin? I would not count ones on a tourist visa.
If I was a rico ex-pat and could pick anywhere to live inside Medellin - probably San Lucas - which is between Poblado and Envigado( up the hill) - would be far enough away from family in Envigado that they could not just pop over for a visit quite as easily.
I would say that the shorts and tee shirt thing is not limited to gringos - lots of Euros in Poblado dressing down also. I don't find Paisas ( the dudes) overly dressy - the general outfit is jeans, and a collared shirt of some type during the week - guys in suits and ties - not many - they will shorts on the weekends ( mostly Sundays).

Yes it would be interesting to find out how many expats actually live in Medellín - not just the ones here as tourists. It's probably a pretty small number - maybe a few thousand?

I understand, but I'm not sure this survey is sophisticated enough to rely on the results.

I have absolutely no idea what the number is - Medellin is a city of almost 3 million - with maybe 1,000 gringos and maybe 5 thousand ex-pats - just a guess on my part - there are a lot of ex-pats from other Latin American countries, hard for us to pick them out - how many Americans are in Medellin at any one time - ex-pats plus tourists - lets say that number is 5,000 ( probably too high) that represents .16% - less than 1/4 of one percent of the population.

Hey! I wore jeans and a pullover or a button-down shirt. No cargo pants either! But I did base out of El Poblado. Although this time I went into the heart of Itagüí and Sabaneta.

Intuitively, that spread of ex-pats in Medellin looks about right.

funny thing is, crime in these neighborhoods is going up, poblado, laureles/ estadio. Yep, the criminals have been targeting the two most wealthy neighborhoods in the city. Reported crime stats are up in both El Poblado and Laureles-Estadio this year but down in other areas according to the city of Medellín.

No doubt about crime being up in Poblado and Laureles, but the city lies about it being down elsewhere. There making a big deal about the 75 people who died in the plane crash(and they should), but 75 dead in Medellin is a slow weekend.
