I was wondering when the cycle was going to reverse trend! I was a coffee snob before I came to Colombia. They have good coffee but not the best. Jamaican Blue is the top, (at least in my book) but @~$60/lbs. I'll pass on buying it. Kona is a little more reasonable @ $20/lbs. and I think almost as good. To be honest, the best I had in Colombia was the Sierra Nevada-grown that was served at the resort in Santa Marta. Very good flavor!

Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is ridiculously priced even if you buy it there.I used to live in Negril and drank the coffee when I could find it.The coffee is grown in small batches and supply and demand drive the price.
I import my own Colombian coffee in small batches, small farm sourced;I pay a small premium above going price especially quality coffee.I also work with a local roaster who buys green coffee varieties from around the world,so I'm fortunate to try top scorers. At this moment,African coffees are BIG!,Ethiopian,Kenyan and the likes are leading the way. It's true Colombia is starting to price themselves out of the market;green coffee brokers are providing the resistance.Their thinking is "I can get better coffee for my money" I will remain to source my coffee in Colombia at a farm gate price;it's a matter of preference and no matter what,Colombian coffee will always have its following.
