Owned by Copa, going to be their no frills division, more competition is a good thing, they state flying from Bogota and from a couple of internal cities to Panama, Cancun ,Havana and a number more, the name is a too little close to Twingo
Did not read anything about MDE

Medellin - Panama pacific Panama Pacific flies out of Marcos A Gelabert Airport at the old Albrook airport to the west of the city. It's a small airport, with no traffic. However, it is the most inefficient airport I have ever been in. We were the only arrival last July, and it took us almost 2 hours to clear immigration and reclaim our bags before we were out on the street. It took just as long to checkin for our flight.

Just had a look as I have yet to book my return flight from Cartagena to Bogota in Jan 17. $122,000 COP per adult. Seams reasonable. Only two flights from Cartagena to Bogota on the particular day I want to travel. One very early in the morning the other very late in the evening. No thanks. I think I will stick with Avianca as they have more flights.

I just got the itinerary from my travel agent for my visit in November. She has me on all Copa flights. When I asked she said they are running cheaper than Avianca. Even my MDE~BOG was with Copa. Everything seems to hub out of Panama City, (Avianca it was San Salvador). The only rub is my return flight to the US from BOG is at 5AM!!!! Granted, Bogota isn't a hub of activity at that hour but I will have to be at the airport no later than 4AM!!!

wildstubby I think you should allow at least 2 hours prior to take off. I know it sounds ridiculous ....but hey this Colombia.

barrumundi said: In essence you are correct. However, the reason they say that in the US is because of the beefed-up security and the longer TSA lines to get to the gate. Last time I stayed at the Aloft right next to the airport in Bogota. I couldn't leave until 6:30 (that is when the shuttle ran) and my flight departed at 8:12. Got through the massive lines at both Avianca and security with about 15 minutes to spare before they announced boarding. Middle of the day would be a different story though.

wildstubby I think you should allow at least 2 hours prior to take off. I know it sounds ridiculous ....but hey this Colombia. At MDE, anyway, if you intend to check luggage it must be checked at least 60 minutes before departure. One time years ago I arrived 40 minutes before departure and was not able to check. Last year, I arrived one time at T-58 (flat tire again!) and was only able to check after the station manager called down to security to get special permission to take the late bag. From what I've read on Flyertalk.com, that's pretty much true at all airports in Latin America and even worse in some countries.

MDE is pretty quick - I usually arrive about 1:15 minutes before the flight and always had time to spare, Flying JetBlue again this trip - only problem - flight gets in at 1am and leaves MDE fro FLL at 2am - good thing about the timing - no traffic to the airport -

So far I have flown with Spirit, Copa, and Jet Blue.
I haven't had any problems with any of them, and each one is better than the other in certain respects. The determining factor for me was the cost of bags and what I was going to take. You can really run up the cost of the flight for additional baggage or excess weight.
All things being equal, the one I like the best was Copa.
