Flying in to Medellin in a couple of weeks for 9 days - the wife is joining for 5 - have dentists and medical appointments and want to ride the moto, first night get in at about 1 am so was looking for a cheap hotel for the first 2 nights that also has parking for the moto for the next day - was trying to avoid Poblado, found a fairly well reviewed on Tripadvisor with parking - pics looked good, price was cheap - about 3.5 stars on the reviews - for 2 nights how bad could it be. Wife suggested the Hotel Porton in Sabaneta - but told her the traffic sucks getting in and out of Sabaneta - even on a moto and I already found a place - she asked where - I said close to the Metro stop Ayura ( spelling maybe off) station, she thought about it for 2 seconds - and then started to say - oh no, no, no gringo - I said what? pics look fine - she then told me it is next to the Mayorista and once everything else closes down in Medellin - people head there to look for unsavory entertainment - drugs and prepagos, so I thought maybe she was overreacting a bit - and looked for a few more reviews - yep guess she was right.
OH well guess I will miss out on the excitement - last thing I want is my moto stolen by some crackhead though.

Hotel Central Plaza is in Mayorista, and a pretty decent hotel for the money. But yes, it is in Mayorista and that is not everyone's cup of tea. I don't know where your appointments are, but La 70 (Laureles) is a good place to stay and centrally located. My two favorite hotels are Hotel Lincoln and Hotel Merlott... both relatively new hotels, comfortable and affordable. The rates on the search engine are coming back at $60 - 65 US, but we've got rooms as cheap as 95,000 pesos/night $32 US at the Lincoln this year. Have your wife call ahead and let her make the deal. If Sabaneta is not totally out of the question, Hacienda Hotel La Extremadura in Vereda La Doctura, is an infinitely better option than Hotel Porton. My wife and I love going there for weekend getaways. And with a price tag of COP$ 130,000 per night (including breakfast), it is a "regalo." Finally, we stayed at a brand new accommodation last weekend on Via Las Palmas called LQ Hotel for $60/ night. The 82-unit hotel has only been open a few weeks. There is still a hint of fresh paint and plaster in the air. LQ is part of the La Quinta hotel chain. Good breakfast, comfortable beds and a nice view of the city. I realize it is Poblado, but LQ is not in the soup of Avenida Poblado, Calle 10, Loma Los Balsos, etc. There is parking in the basement garage as well. Not sure if these places are your definition of "cheap" but they are clean and comfortable and decent value hotels.

Laurales just too far , have stayed at a hotel called Element in Provenza, it was new and only about $30/night, just no parking for the moto When the wife gets in town we stay at the Affinity, but when by myself I stay on the cheap, but not a hostel type. I could stay at our apartment in Envigado with family but already live with 3 Colombians and the don't care to share an apartment half the size of my house with 4-5 family members, staying with your mother in law does not equate to a relaxing time away from work for me, also would have to deal with 4 year old granddaughter , I am good with her but about 2 hours a day is my limit.
I know the hotel above Sabaneta , Great views but tough to walk anywhere, a hike back to my medical appointments
