Colombia's Santos extends ceasefire with FARC rebels until December 31 BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (AP) – President Juan Manuel Santos announced on Thursday that he is extending a ceasefire with Colombia's largest rebel movement in a bid to give more time to efforts to save a peace deal rejected by voters. Santos said in a televised address that he was extending by two months the ceasefire with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia until Dec. 31. He made the announcement after meeting with students who have been organizing demonstrations across the country to demand the accord be implemented immediately despite it being rejected in a referendum. "Let it be clear: this isn't an ultimatum or deadline," Santos said, adding that he hoped to have an agreement before year's end. He said the lives of soldiers and guerrillas depended on warfare not resuming. "Time is conspiring against peace and life." Santos, winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize, is engaged in three-way talks with the FARC and the opposition to find ways to adjust the accord so that it enjoys broader support. It's an uphill battle though. Former President Alvaro Uribe, who led opposition to the accord, is demanding deep changes such as stiffer penalties for rebels who committed war crimes. Meanwhile the rebels, who would be spared jail time under the accord, are insisting they won't go back to the drawing board and throw out more than four years of arduous negotiations with the government. latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2016/10/14/colombai-santos-extends-ceasefire-with-farc-rebels-in-hopes-saving-peace-deal/

Even Uribe could not kill them all--
The FARC could not survive without part of the population supporting them
The same everywhere in the world with guerilla movements

where in Colombia was the support of FARC? Drug cultivators? Venezuela and Ecuador yes. But nothing else.
Uribe could not kill them, because they were hiding in Ven and Ecu.

Makopp5 There has been supporters of the Farc, not only locals but outsiders from the start. How do you think the Farc get their supplies and materials with out any one knowing where they are? How do they move around to differant areas and blow things up with out help from outsiders.
I agree Uribes problem at the end of his presidency it was hard getting them , due to the Farc jumping back in forth across the VZ and EC borders.

It's so strange that even with all the years of evidence people still think FARC are acting without support from anyone. Anything but face up to reality, that's the Colombian way - mind you it doesn't help when expats come on here posting about the Disneyland they live in, denying corruption and anything else that would make them question their beliefs if they were honest enough to.

dandl93 suba what kind of support? If I stand in front of you with a AK47 you will support me? Colombians don't need an AK47 pointed at them, they support politicians who give them a can of aguila and a bowl of lechona. 62% of the population couldn't be bothered getting off the sofa to vote in the biggest vote in Colombia's history recently, maybe Farc had AK47s pointing at each front door? Face it - Colombians are more concerned about their Telenovelas than changing their country.

The ”Great and Powerful Chimp Master” has spoken to remind us that he is all knowing and wise, and to put the lowly Colombians and expats into their rightful place. Now bow before him and walk upon his scorched earth in the shadow of his greatness lest ye be wearing cheap Colombian made shoes.

Well after all --it is a 3rd world country---if it is such a great place--
then why have thousands of Colombians fled to the states versus a few hundred ex-pats to Colombia
Colombia has a rigid class structure in ruling / defined social circles in the following pecking order
1st. Spanish Colombians 20% 2nd Mestizo Colombians 60% 3rd Indigenous Colombians 15% 4th Negro Colombians 5%
Nothing all knowing and wise--the country speaks for itself
Just the way it is--
