Taxi fares in Medellín go up, starting today. Drivers have until September 1 to adjust the taximeter in taxis.
The minimum fare is increased from 4600 to 5000 pesos, while the fare to the Jose Maria Cordova airport is now 65,000 pesos, toll included, which is up from 60,000 pesos.
Drivers have from today until September 1 to set taximeters and can start using the new fees.
Secretary of Transportation, Juan Esteban Martinez said that drivers should approach the Automotive Diagnostic Centers (CDA) certified by the Ministry of Transport, for the calibration of taxi meters.
"The taxis that already have the new decal and the security seal that has defined the new rates of the Administration may make the rate increase. If the taxi does not have it, is because it has not approached the CDA and if you are charging rate without the sticker will be punished, "said Martinez.
He added that drivers who charge the new rates without the new windshield sticker shall be punished by a fine of 15 daily legal minimum wages, ie, about 344,000 pesos.
In this regard, Fabian Quintero, president of Tax Individual, said the increase in rates occurred through a process in which the Municipal Administration and the union of taxi drivers participated.
The cost to wait is 87 pesos for every 60 seconds and the value of a contracted hour of time will be 27,000 pesos.
Also, the requirement of the control card or yellow card is maintained, which the driver must carry in a visible place with the current rates.
Citizens who know of any irregularity on charging new fees may report them to the Secretaría de Movilidad, Ministerio de Transporte and taxi companies.

There was no taxi fare increase last year in Medellín. If a taxi driver charges the new fares make sure they have a sticker in the windshield with the new fares. They technically are not supposed to charge the new fares without a new sticker.
