Tourists spent over $42 million USD in Medellín during Feria de Flores (Flower Festival) over the past 10 days. This was an increase of 11% compared to last year. According Sistema de Indicadores Turísticos de Medellín (Situr), the entry of 11,139 foreign visitors and 12,743 Colombians living outside the country was reported. If an average daily expenditure per person of $180 is estimated, it means that the city benefited from $4.29 million daily. As the fair began on July 29 and lasted until Sunday 7 August, it was 10 days of activities, so we can speak of that economic benefit of over $42 million. The number of visitors reported by transport terminals (North and South) was 365,803 passengers, 2.2% more than a year ago, said yesterday the mayor. Medellin Conventions Bureau also highlighted the visit of 27 journalists from more than 21 international media. "These results confirm that the show, besides being a great event city, positions us as a holiday destination," said Ana Maria Gallego, manager of the Bureau. In this balance hotel occupancy in Medellín averaged 74.7%, slightly higher than 2015, but far from the 95% achieved in 2016 during Colombiamoda. In the city center occupancy was 73.8%. In Laureles-Estadio it increased to 67.8%, while in El Poblado dropped to 77.7%. On the other hand, was significant attendance at major events: for the 59th Silleteros Parade there was a seating capacity of 20,655 attendees in boxes, not counting the hundreds of thousands massed on either side of the route. This event is very good for Medellín's economy and benefits many...

yep and will any of that money go into medellin infrastructure to fix the traffic problems? nope, in the pockets of the politicians and bacunas Some of the recent infrastructure problems have really improved some of the traffic issues for me. I can now go from my house to Tesoro mall in about 8-10 minutes thanks to the new bridges on superior, or get to Balsos rapidly if going to the airport. When they finish at inferior by the Consumo it will even improve more, some of the issues here are caused by the geography as it is difficult to find landscape to expand the roads. On another thread many were complaining about the traffic, I don't find it that bad. I can go from Envigado to Poblado in about 10 minutes, at rush hour it may take 15 to 20 minutes-just avoid Poblado avenue whenever possible. And I find the drivers here to be for the most part very courteous, once you get used to the moto's weaving in and out of the traffic driving is not that difficult here-I just do not understand all the drama on these boards in regards to driving, traffic, etc. The biggest thing that made me nervous when I first started driving in Medellin was not knowing all the roads, so if you missed your turn it might take awhile to get where your going.

But to be fair in my opinion Medellin has the best maintained roads in Colombia-certainly much better than Bogota, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, etc. The roads in Bogota are an absolute disgrace, especially since it is the capital-some of the holes in the road are big enough to swallow a bus.
