I thought of subsidizing the cost of English classes for a new amiga in Bogota.
Berlitz offers a course for three hours per day, five days a week for three months (four-six students per class).
The quoted price is $5.075.000 ($7.088.000 less a 'descuento mes de Julio' of $2.500.000).
Is this the going rate for English classes in Bogota?

wow.. Sounds steep to me but I never checked. Glad I didn't need it..LOL
That would be over $2000 USD a month for only 4 students working 3 hours a day. That's really good money...

My thoughts, too.
I helped an amiga in Medellin with her English classes a few years ago.
My recollection is that the cost was a little over $400.000 per month for two, two-hour classes per week, private tutoring and the tutor went to the student's home -- early in the morning so that the amiga could make it to work at nine o'clock or so.
The amiga's niece was allowed to sit in on the lessons. Turns out that the teen-aged sobrina learned English well while her thirty-something aunt, the intended beneficiary, didn't do nearly so well.

You will find a wide range of prices, but not all Language schools are equal. Some are just hiring Colombian nationals with a language degree. No real teachers, and a poor level of English. Others will hire some native speakers, with no teaching qualifications. They often get this job because they're willing to stay in Colombia for 6 months or a year. They can be great, or just crap. And finally a few schools will hire native speakers with foreign language teaching qualifications and experience. This will not guarantee that the teachers are great, but at least they're qualified.
You may ask about the teacher or teachers your friend will be assigned to, and their qualifications.

The problem is that the students aren't allocated any particular teacher. At the time of payment they are introduced to a native with qualifications coming out of his or her ears, once they turn up for class they get whoever the institute has managed to hire for the pittance they actually pay the teacher - usually a backpacker who is just funding his or her vacation in Colombia.
