A study by a recognized brand of condoms revealed that six out of ten sexually active in Colombia do not use condoms for contraception or to prevent disease transmission, which is a reason why experts call attention to the use of this method. The same study also reveals that those who use condoms only do this only eight out of ten times they have sex. According to Dr. Alejandra Heredia, medical specialist advises pharmaceuticals, "This is a worrying situation because the community does not comprehend the severity of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and instead think that these infections occur only for people with risky sexual behavior; but far from being so, this is a problem that every day increases the numbers of those infected with an infection" Also, three out of ten respondents considered unnecessary to use condoms when they have a stable relationship, a situation that endangers both men and women. This scenario exposes the problems that Colombians only use condoms as a contraceptive and not as the only method of preventing STIs. Official figures from the Colombian Society of Urology show that in the country every hour ten people contract a sexually transmitted infection. For its part, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said that in Colombia every day 53 new cases of human papilloma virus are reported. Dr. Heredia noted that the condom is the only method that prevents the spread of STIs. "We must become more aware address this problem and stop thinking it is a problem of others, on the contrary, everyone is exposed and it is better to prevent lengthy and expensive treatments, which deteriorate the quality of life," said the specialist . The survey was conducted by the company Millward Brown with a sample of 800 men and women from all estratos, 18 to 45 years in the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla. I think a part of the newer generation uses them more than the prebious to a point. But I also think that number is low. No way 40% are always protected.

all those papiloma viruses hanging around for years..
What did old Ronell say about Gringos getting throat or penis cáncer from their Colombiana?
Not so far-fetched , actually. No wonder, condoms are so expensive. How can people making salario mínimo aford them?

a friend of mine told me a story about her ex boyfriend who when she was with before they broke up, said " my boyfriend, just before we broke up, said he couldnt have sex for 12 days" i said " what? please say that again" i wanted to make sure i heard it correctly, she repeated it, and then i asked, " do you think some colombian guy is going to say no to sex with a cute girl? hell no!!!! wake up, he caught a sexual disease from some other girl and the doctor said, " dont have sex with somebody for 12 days until your medication clears your infection" wowww, then she got it lol, amazing how little common scene these girls have, cant put 2+2 together.
on another note , i have a doctor friend who works in three clinics in medlelin, poblado, manriquie and robledo. she said herpes and genital warts has increased in the city quite a bit, mostly in poblado, laureles and envigado, and bello, manriquie and robledo and itagui.
so i asked, why these areas? she explained.... poblado, laureles, envigado because is where most foreigners stay when they come to medlelin, and the other poor areas because is whee many of the prepagos live..... makes scene,
then sh e said more and more men in the barrios are now catching the diseases because the girls are now spreading it in their barrios, sadddd

Definitely a Colombian problem! Teenage parenthood. Colombians will have to fix this issue if they want to develop. Single 15yrs old mothers will stop going to school and will remain a burden for their families forever.

It never stops to amaze me how many colombianas are obsessed to have their little 'negrito' (an endearing term here on the coast) and don't give it a second thought if the father will stick around to help raising the child which is extremely rare. The great majority of single mom's will dump the kid into their mom's lap and go on with their life's and go to work. Getting any child support from the father is also rarely successful.
