Watched the Nacional game last night in Envigado with family and friends at a little corner bar that would normally seat about 15 but it had around 60 rapid fans spoiling out in the sidewalk and street. Pretty boring second half if you ask me , but the hjome team won and set off a massive celebration. I had been to the dentist earlier in the day and was hopped up on pain medication so could not drink. Right after the game grabbed a taxi back toe hotel in Poblado, wife was coming back later after a bit more celebrating . As we were leaving Envigado, before the SanMarcos area there is a block of bars that always attracts the very young party goers you could tell there were a lot of people celebrating in the street, the bus in front of us turned to avoid it. But for some reason my cabbie drove into the middle of it, told him "dude .I don't think this is a good idea" but he continued forward , we were making slow progress through the block but about halfway through he stopped, we were surrounded, people stared pounding on the car, the roof , the windows, at first the driver thought it was fun, but then they started to rock the taxi back and forth, I had a flashback to October 1980 in Philly after the Phillies won the world series for the first time in decades, got caught in the celebration there after the clinching game, cars got flipped, police cars on fire and a couple of people got shot, I was not sure if I was in for the same in Envigado. The cabbie started to get very concerned and tried to move forward, rocking got worse, he then finally laid on the horn and gave it a bit more gas and we finally started to move through the crowd again and made it out without much damage to the cab. Don't care to repeat that experience, the wife tried to grab a cab 2 hours later but could not find one with a sober driver , luckily an aunt gave her a ride back

Last night what seemed like military grade explosions rocked Laureles until the wee hours. Loudest booms I've ever heard in my life. It was as though the army had fired a tank across the street in the park. I grew up not knowing much about soccer but I definitely got the feeling that Colombia won.

I grew up not knowing much about soccer but I definitely got the feeling that Colombia won. Medellin major football team won, not Colombia. Don't tell people from Bogota that Colombia won yesterday night Even here in Bogota, there is a strong Atlético Nacional fan base. And what a hell of a noise they made. Oh and by the way a few people died yesterday night thanks to these lunatics.

Nacional fans have a bad reputation. My gf refers to them as ñeros, hampones and gamines.

One of the best parties I was ever involved in was when Barranquilla Junior won the domestic championship a few seasons ago (I was in Barranquilla at the time). I still have the team jersey and beach towel. The towel goes down well with the local Cartagena fans on the Bocagrande beaches

I would have to say that the natives were a little hyped up last night. Hell, they even started celebrating before the game. It was just measured chaos after they got their first goal. I recorded the action out my 5th floor apartment window overlooking Medellin and posted it on facebook. When they won, all bets were off as far as any chance for a quieter night. I never traveled after a game, usually during a game when things are still sane. I will say the ongoing all night firework displays were beautiful, if not loud. The only time I ever had any drama in a taxi was when the taxi driver got into a road rage incident with another driver. I thought they were going to go to blows. But you're adventure, would be quite an adrenalin rush. Not knowing what was going to happen next. It reminded me so much of the that sequence in the Godfather film where Michael was trying to get out of Cuba when the communists took over.

My most exciting football match was a sold out Bogota classico. My sister-in-law's husband and I hoped to score a couple of tickets;by the time we arrived sold out signs were up,so I told him I would try to find a scalper.Had no luck returned to find him and he was gone.I proceeded to the closest gate (south entrance) for a peek;a fan came up and opened the gate,a few rushed in and I was swept in.The cops gave chase,l alluded them and quickly found a seat.Feeling like a sitting duck, thought the cops would spot me,being the only gringo in the zone...as luck had it they never did.
