Medellin was chosen as the best destination in South America to "take a break" at the World Travel Awards, delivered last Friday in Lima, Peru. In the vote they involved 800 thousand professionals of the tourism industry in the region and the city was chosen in the category "South America's Leading City Break Destination", which recognizes the most outstanding places to spend holiday combine culture, good weather, dining and entertainment. This is the first time that Medellin wins in a category of leisure tourism. Already in 2014 and 2015 had been chosen as the best destination for events and meetings in Latin America, this year's prize was awarded to Lima. The CEO of the World Travel Awards, Sion Rapson, said that Medellin was chosen over nominees destinations like Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Montevideo "thanks to attributes such as its rich culture, friendly people, their food, diversity of entertainment options, entertainment offerings and its pleasant climate." The traffic in Medellin is no "city break." Glad I live in the general area, but best place for a "city break?" LOL

The vast majority voting were likely males - no secret what are the biggest tourist attractions of Medellin for male tourists - just look at what has happened in Parque Lleras - working chicas and drugs.

I bet there was a picture of a local woman somewhere in the presentation with more silicon than California hanging off her backside - she probably had a joint hanging from her gob too.

Don't quite understand the "city break " concept - seems like a made up term to create filler for a website or travel mag.
LM - last trip was offered drugs while walking though ( just above LLeras) several times - but never really took notice of working girls - certainly have seen them but already paired up with their local older benefactor or older dude tourist type. Have been to a couple of clubs in LLeras with the wife and friends - fairly typical crowd - 99% Colombians - mostly groups of friends - maybe my prepago radar is broken ( been married too long I guess)

Don't quite understand the "city break " concept - seems like a made up term to create filler for a website or travel mag. I personally like to have "city breaks", 2 or 3 nights in a city over a long week end. I used to do it from time to time in Europe, but it was feasible because distances are not that big and flights can be pretty cheap. Roma, Florence, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, London, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Brussels... Now in South America, distances are bigger and tickets are more expensive, so it's getting more difficult. Panama, Miami, Quito, are still feasible. Caracas is geographically doable too, but who wants to spend time there in these days.
