The wife is heading there for a week with a busload of family , any thoughts on it - from pictures - looks like small town with very average beaches, 9 hour bus ride?

Yes, went there in 2012 with my wife, nieces and a sister-in-law. We booked a package tour with Empaque y Vamonos for $350,000 each (all-inclusive). The bus ride was a 12-hour all nighter from Premium Plaza in Medellin... the trip back was closer to 15 hours due to a rockslide on the highway to the coast. Our all-inclusive hotel, "Isla Mar," was straight out of hell.. nevertheless, we took lemons and made lemonade. Covenas is at the head of an oil pipeline, and heavily guarded by Colombian marines. The beach is OK... sort of reminds me of the north coast in the DR. Covenas is far from being an idyllic pueblo... when I first saw it, I had visions of what the "Bay of Pigs" may have looked like. About 17 km down the road is the resort town of Tolu... a once seaport that has become a party town. No beach to speak of, but the town is kind of quaint with a party on every corner. I probably would have been happier if we stayed there.

Better her than me on a 10 hour bus ride - she is going with the oldest stepdaughter and 3 year old granddaughter - yikes! - Overnight bus so hopefully the kid will sleep. Would like to check it out someday - but for now not enough time when I am in Colombia - I live 45 minutes from Cocoa Beach here in Florida - no real reason to visit beaches when in Colombia. Although I am always on the lookout for marinas and or anchorages I could keep a sailboat when I retire someday.

jabberwocky you can fly to Monteria and taking from there a taxi or bus to Coveñas. But I`m sure the beach live in Colombia is very different from Florida. On the beach in Coveñas you can get drunk without problems.

My wife and her family (me included) go there every year for a week. We stay at Palma Caoba bungalows right on the beach. Two story, air conditioned with a great kitchen for cooking local seafood. The bungalows can sleep 8 persons comfortably. We like to go fishing in the lagoon behind the main highway in large canoes. We catch Robalo and other salt water fish that are in the brackish waters of the lagoon that connects with the ocean. I prefer going to Tolu for shopping, eating etc., not much in Covenas.

Plenty of nice beaches in Florida and you don't need to deal with the leftover garbage on the beaches.Golfo de Morrosquillo is following the Costeño litter bug ways.

OK..2 ways.,. If you have them on your computer on the right side click on reply. Then on the top right corner it says Add Attachment then click Add Files and pick the file on your computer. They will show up here as smaller pictures but if you then click on them they will become big. The second way is to download them on the site tinypic.com/Then just copy the link it gives you after it downloads and paste it here in the text box. We may have a video on it... I will have to look. Just try playing around. If you make a mistake you can edit it or worse case I can edit it for you. Don't worry about messing something up. Just play around till you get it.

Posting pics are easy if you follow the steps,it becomes routine, perhaps the only pain is editing the good ones to post.

Tolu;quaint little house. Middle Eastern immigrants settled this coast, you can spot the influence in the local architecture.
