Pablo Escobar’s former top assassin plans to run for Colombia congress The former primary hitman of slain drug lord Pablo Escobar, who was released from prison in 2014, said Thursday he plans to run for senator in the 2018 elections. “Popeye,” who served 30 years for the killing of hundreds of people, told radio station La W that if FARC leader “Timochenko can be in the senate, so can Popeye.” The FARC last week signed a bilateral ceasefire with the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos that will allow members of Colombia’s oldest guerrilla group to take part in politics. Since leaving prison, Popeye — whose real name is Jhon Jairo Velasquez — has dedicated himself to becoming an political commentator on YouTube. His new calling has converted the former killer to a popular phenomenon on the video platform. “I have a very strong following on social media,” Popeye told the radio station, calling himself a “political activist” dedicated to combating corruption in Colombia. Popeye would be one of the first convicted criminals to run for public office, but — if elected — not the first to combine politics and crime. Since 2006, dozens of lawmakers and former lawmakers have been sentenced to prison because of their ties to the AUC, the far right paramilitary group that took over Escobar’s drug trafficking business after the drug lord’s death in 1993. While in prison, Popeye reportedly obtained a number of degrees. colombiareports.com/pablo-escobar-former-top-assassin-plans-run-colombia-congress/

He is well qualified according to the past pillos. What would be the difference anyway. Ha! perhaps popeye will promote medical spinach instead of medical marijuana.
Normando Valentin, who is the #1 news reporter in Puerto Rico, flew to Medellin and interviewed popeye. The ratings where very high. He told everything about uncle Pablo and all they did together.

Hey, I am living in deep debt Puerto Rico. I feel I will be better off in Colombia. The gov here is a joke. They collect a lot of $ in taxes on so many things and the electricity is the most expensive in the world, yet they are broke. So where is the money going to? Like I say, I am better off in Colombia and that is no pastuso joke.

Its pretty bad if a mass murderer is elected. Makes you wonder where a society is headed. Someone that admittedly killed hundreds?

I do not know much about popeye. Just what has been shown on TV and what my wife tells me. Well, she tells me that he did what, about 30 years in the USA to pay debt to Americans for the whatever he did. However, what about all the people he killed in Colombia? I figure he should have been released from the USA jail and then put him in jail in Colombia for all the killing he did.
