Piqueo is a good upscale Peruvian restaurant in Medellín with some good seafood. Rocoto is another good Peruvian one.
Donde Bupos also has good seafood. Those are the best three seafood places I have eaten at in Medellín - all three are located in El Poblado.
Also Chiclayo is another pretty good Peruvian restaurant in Envigado.

Seafood in Medellin win never be the same as coastal seafood. It happens everywhere. Not so fresh. I live next to the Atlantic Ocean and the seafood is the best, but if I drive up the hills for two hours, seafood stinks but the local comida criolla is the best. So when you are in Rome you do as pastusos do. lol

Paisas tend to overcook everything - terrible to do that to seafood. I still struggle to get my wife to eat seafood here in Florida - she won't even try shrimp, I think she had it once in Medellin and did not like it, try to explain to her fresh fish/seafood makes a huge difference - tricked her into eating lobster bisque once - told her it was chicken. But strangely she likes sopa de pesco, which I don't really care for, at least the cup I tried in Medellin.
Usually when I am in Medellin - I eat typical local fare - but easy to get that here in Orlando - had bandeja paisa last week. Trying to find some different foods in Medellin - I like decent to good seafood - just hard to find, I once tried the shrimp from Exito - tasted like rubber.
Wife and family never had much of a chance to try seafood before coming here, they were to Cartagena once, I just think if I can get her to try some well prepared fish she would like it.

I would be more inclined to forego Cartagena for Golfo de Morrosquillo; Archipiélago de San Bernardo,Océano: Mar Caribe,Ciudades costeras: Tolú,Coveñas y San Antero Cabos - Boca de Tinajones... these towns are seafood meccas that won't break the bank. When in (Caratagena) www.restaurantepuntanorte.com/#_=_ a hidden gem and they pluck their seafood direct from the surrounding ocean gardens. goo.gl/4d6m8t

My wife is the same. Not much for seafood. She only eats fried fish and sometimes shrimp cocktail. She loves the one they sell in Cartagena by the late Sincelejo. But I do grill NY strip and then put shrimp and mushrooms over it and then I cover them with melted cheese. That she loves.

I live in Antioquia and like it a lot, but Costeño Food is much better than Piasa food and it's not really even fair to compare them. The Costeños actually puts some seasoning in their food, can you imagine that? Seafood is fresh on the coast and not frozen, trucked in and thawed out. Full disclosure, I lived in Santa Marta for 5 months.

Full disclosure, I lived in Santa Marta for 5 months. The problem with Santa Marta is that it's so dirty that its easy to lose your appetite. With the trash bags of every color hanging from every tree and the nice breeze bringing the scent of urine its hard to get too enthused about eating. My brother in law lived there(Rodadero) for 20 years and every time we would visit I would lose 10 pounds in a week. Maybe those spices are hiding something.

I buy lobsters right off the boats from the fishermen and I buy Shrimp at Cispita from the locals, great fresh crustaceans. Attachments:

billforce ,I stayed in Tolu also;half a dozen times over the years,we make the odd trip out to stay in a little resort on Titipan. Last visit we stayed in a little ecoresort,a few kms outside of town.We also buy our lobster from a fisherman who walks around town;I recall it was around 30k/kilo.

Flynn - how did you like living in SM? From Premontion's post - he did not care for it too much. Santa Marta is like any city. There are some grimy areas and some nice areas. My main complaint was that it was too hot. 10am to about 3pm more or less it was an inferno. I lived a block from the beach, in El Rodadero, so a late afternoon dip in the sea was nice. I enjoyed my time there, but Medellin has more to offer in my opinion.

Most Colombians go out to eat just because they want to go out to eat, but don't know much about their restaurants. I have been invited to different restaurants in Cartagena (I get invited so I can pay, lol) and I never thought the restaurants were so great.
My wife rather go to Applebee's here instead of good local seafood restaurants. In fact, her birthday is the 4th of July so that is where she wants to go. Applebee's.

papitohead Do you have a bonefish grill near? I like to go there occasionally. I'm partial to the Ahi Tuna.. Although I wouldn't want to spoil your wife's birthday Applebee's dinner.. Not really sure how big this chain is but quite a few in the NE US where I was living. Tell her its like the Applebee's of seafood. www.bonefishgrill.com/directory

Finding a good seafood restaurant in Medellin can be hit or miss, and is a challenge. So far the best I've found is "Frutas del Mar" on Calle 43b in Barrio Manila's Calle de Buena Mesa, but is a bit on the pricey side. Runner-ups include Peru Mix 10 on Calle 10 in Poblado and Chiclayo on Calle 30 Sur in Envigado's Calle de Buena Mesa.

We don't have them here. lol. Back @ Central New York people go to Red Lobster. They are not so bad if you stick to shrip, etc. But their fish is not fresh. Probably the best I ever visited is Sanitary (http://www.sanitaryfishmarket.com/home). I love the deep fried scallops there. I do have an acre nearby there in Havelock which is a waterfront community which I am selling and every time I am in the area that is where I like to go.

lol, scumbuster. Lived in a hamlet more north to you. Truxton if you have ever heard of. We were 11 miles east of Cortland, NY. I worked at Cortland for 32 years. Small world huh. coolcoil has also been to Cortland for business. In Truxton there is a place to ski called Labrador Mountain. I skied there a lot. Was only five minutes to my house. Loved Sundays when we went skiing in AM then met at my house to watch the Giants Football games. Summers are beautiful there. I had a boat at the Glen Heaven in Skaneateles lake. My son still live in Lansing/Ithaca area and works at Cornell University. My daughter live in Truxton and works as a teacher in Cortland.

My wife and I don't do quaint little hole in the wall restaurants. We have a full time maid/cook and prefer to eat at home but on those occasions when we do go out in Medellin or Rio Negro etc. I want a REAL restaurant, not a taco stand. The last really good seafood meal I had was in Rodadero at Burukuka. Tables with table cloths, real silver, air conditioned inside restaurant, proper waiters in uniform. If I want to go eat in the open air I'll go to the beach and eat a shrimp cocktail. I had an Angel Hair pasta with Langostino's and it was excellent. Fresh bread and a decent salad too and the sunsets are the best, especially if you're a photographer.

If you're looking for a divine seafood intervention on Old Providencia; Divino Niño Jesus serves up a humongous seafood platter for 2...dine on the beach.
