Environmentalist hit job but what do they offer as an alternative, nada. If 10,000 people starve to death as opposed to 10,000 who become ill then who is the winner. There will always be people opposed to capitalism and business and find all the excuses but unless they offer workable alternative solutions except to "throw money" at a problem they won't go away, other peoples money at that. It's been proven time and again that Socialism simply doesn't work, never has and never will so perhaps it's time to offer something constructive instead of trying to tear down the establishment. At 33 years of age I was the youngest district manager of a gas utility company in California. Part of my method of doing business was I didn't allow criticism unless you offered an alternative otherwise you have a bunch of disgruntled employees that poison a company but do not help the situation. I welcomed constructive criticism if you had a workable solution but I got rid of bitchers and bad apples before they poisoned the whole barrel.

So we learn: - poisoning the barrel: NOT with Gruppenführer billforce! - poisoning the water: ok if it makes a buck. Thank you for your wisdom, dear leader. As an afterthought - I guess at your age it ain't your problem anymore. I get it. F*** the rest.

I'll answer your dogmatic reply with an original Bill Force quote: " We are all born with a certain amount of natural intelligence, some more than others but WISDOM is an acquisition and most of the time through life's experiences". Yes, I have lived a long time, more than the average and as such have acquired a small amount of wisdom. If you are lucky perhaps you will also but I don't see it manifested here on this forum. You never argue without getting personal, I suppose it's a character flaw?

You never argue without getting personal, I suppose it's a character flaw? Look in the mirror, old man. I wonder how you would react if they put one of these mines upstream of your water supply. But as long as it's just the poor suckers doing it to themselves, it's ok with you.

However there are always 2 sides to every story. There is no reason why foreign companies cant use "Best Available Practice" to minimize risk and HSE problems. However I agree that the environmental extremists and native groups, in both developed and non developed countries are notorious for deceipt, over-exageration and down-right lieing. I definitely agree that illegal gold mining is a terrible thing. I think your argument would be more suitable if the were attacking multi-nationals.

About a year ago it was discovered that criminal miners had actually dug a thirty meter long tunnel in the Fallarones national Park completely diverting the flow from the Quebrada de Soccoro that feeds the Rio Felidia which in turn feeds the Rio Cali the river that flows past the zoo causing a water shortage to the city. It took a while but months later an army team of explosives experts went up there and blew the tunnel up, returning the water flow to the rivers mentioned. www.elpais.com.co/elpais/cali/graficos/grafico-asi-deteriora-rio-cali-desde-su-nacimiento-hasta-paso-por-ciudadAlong the Cali-Buenaventura road near Dagua criminal miners have built shanties that look like houses but actually conceal tunnel entrances. These tunnels go right under the road and have caused cave ins of the highway. Ilegal gold mining has destroyed rivers in twenty one departments of Colombia including Cauca, Antioquia, Chocó, los Santanderes, Amazonas, Guainía, Putumayo, Valle, Vichada, Cundinamarca, Sucre, Boyacá, Vaupés, Bolívar, Magdalena, Cesar, Córdoba, Risaralda, Caldas y Caquetá. www.noticiascolombianas.com.co/index.php/66654/mineria-ilegal-destruye-los-rios-de-21-departamentos-de-colombia/Both cyanide and mercury are used to extract gold in ilegal mining operations. Both are poisonous to human beings. To suggest that this activity has any relation to Western political notions of Socialism and Capitalism is utterly fallacious. The "corporations" behind ilegal gold mining in Colombia are the bacrim (Urabeños, Rastrojos etc.) and the two guerrilla factions.
