The Mexican company Alsea, which operates brands such as Starbucks and Burger King, renewed until May 2026 the master franchise agreement to operate the Domino's Pizza brand in Colombia. With this renewal, Alsea agreed to have a minimum of 142 Domino's Pizza stores operating in Colombia by 2026, which means more than doubling the current operation consisting of 66 establishments, the company said, according to the Mexican newspaper El Universal. Other brands of Alsea within the segments of fast food, cafes, casual food and family restaurants include Chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, PF Chang's, Italianni's, The Cheesecake Factory, Vips, El Porton, Foster's Hollywood, La Vaca Argentina, Canas and Tapas, Il Tempietto and Archie's Colombia. I'm looking forward to it. I like Domino's. I'm a little biased, since I worked there as a driver all through college and for several years after. I never made it to elex's exalted position of manager, but it was a darn good job for somebody who needs one with flexibility and good pay. They paid us the minimum wage of $5.35/hr, but with tips I averaged $12/hr not counting the mileage reimbursement, which a bit of profit too if you were driving a car that was already depreciated. That was better than most could get for part time work in a college town in the late 80's/early 90's* without taking their clothes off. I thought the pizza was pretty good too, at least if you stick with the standard crust. The deep dish and thin crusts were pre-fabricated and parbaked and while I was happy to eat them for free, I really preferred the regular crust which was baked from dough. They went through a brief period during that time when they cut back on the ingredient quality when Little Caeser's cut into their business, but they quickly figured out they were losing too much business a went back. I recently noticed one in the San Antonio sector of Rionegro. I've been meaning to stop in and see how they do it here. I used to regularly eat in one of the Mexican sites in Monterrey, and it was pretty much the same as the US except for the additional ingredients that Mexicans like. Corn? Are you freaking kidding me??? I thought that was only an English thing. Chorizo was a good addition though. I'm guessing I won't find Italian sausage on the menu either. Here's a hint: If they use conveyor ovens, ask them to put the pizza through for an extra half cycle, particularly if you like crispy thin crust. They always run the conveyors to fast to properly cook the pizza and the extra time makes a big difference. If it's not a conveyor, then ask for extra time in the oven. In general, I've found the pizza here to be a bit undercooked. Hint #2: If you like deep dish, try asking for extra dough on a regular pizza. In our case, they would add the dough for a medium pizza to the dough for a large pizza and you ended up with a thick, but still fresh-baked crust. Definitely better than most deep dish I've had. This definitely requires two trips down the conveyor, though. *I'm older than that would indicate. I went to college later than most.

This may sound odd but I have never in my life had a Domino's pizza. Are the US ones any good? Do the Colombian ones taste anything like the US ones?

Domino's pizza in the US IMHO is better than Domino's in Colombia. In Colombia the Domino's "pan pizza" is nothing like the Domino's pan pizza in the US, it's not much thicker than the regular crust. The regular crust is similar but the Domino's stores in Colombia are inconsistent in my experience. The pan pizza that Domino's introduced in 2012 in the US can be pretty good if cooked right but the Domino's pan pizza in Colombia is different and sucks in comparison.

Can we have a poll? Who would you hire to manage one of the new Dominoes locations? Elex with pizza management experience, but at Pizza Hut? Or Coolcoil, who has experience working at Dominoes, but not at the store management level?

It's not me with experience at Domino's - that was coolcoil who said above he was a "driver throughout college and for several years after". I only have experience as a Domino's customer.

Or Coolcoil, who has experience working at Dominoes, but not at the store management level? I will bow out of the running and allow elex to take the honors. Running a pizza store is a thankless task. And, it's largely nonstop hard work. As a driver, you get your car, turn on the radio and make deliveries at your own pace, as long as it's not so slow that gets you fired. I was one of the ones that hussled, because I was there for the money, but there were plenty who just dawdled.
