Just signed up to this forum, was on Gringos and PBH prior but not very active. We are in the process of packing up the house for our move to Colombia. Can anyone tell me if I am allowed to take an air rifle (22 cal pellet gun)?

I looked into this a long time ago, and at that time you could. You need some sort of certification that the device is indeed air or gas-powered and not capable of being a regular firearm. There are some forums that are specific to air rifles that discuss the subject. I think I search on "air rifle," "Colombia," "import."

OP - Do you read Spanish? If so, there are a lot of links that explain the rules using these terms on Google:
importacion de rifles de aire colombia reglas
It appears to me that there are few restrictions. I'm pretty sure that you have to have documentation that it is an air gun and not an "arma de fuego." From what I saw on the air rifle club sites, many people have replica guns. I'm assuming that by replica gun one means that it looks like the real version of the weapon, as opposed to the types of air guns that you can tell are obviously air guns at first sight (e.g. paintball guns).

I do read Spanish - but slowly. I looking this over I've decided not to take it. It's an inexpspensive one and not worth the paperwork, I'll just buy one in Colombia. Thaks to all for the replies.

What can you do with it? In the USA we would have fun shooting gophers with them, but in Colombia?

If you do a search on the terms I listed in the earlier post, you actually come across sports gun clubs that have permanent target ranges, much like in the US, but air gun only. It appears that if you're into target shooting, there are a lot of opportunities to meet like-minded people here.

Air rifles, air pistols, pellet guns, bb guns etc are readily available in stores in all the big malls e.g. Centro Chia, Unicentro, San Andresito etc. Replica hand guns are also on display. You can also buy blanks .....real cartridges without the bullets. That is what is on display ........who knows what is available 'under the counter'! Forgot to mention cross-bows and knives of every shape and description ........plus pepper spray of course. coolcoil mentioned that air-rifles are obviously not real looking but I have seen some on display that resemble AK-47's.

coolcoil mentioned that air-rifles are obviously not real looking but I have seen some on display that resemble AK-47's. Ummmmm, didn't say that. Here is what I said: From what I saw on the air rifle club sites, many people have replica guns. I'm assuming that by replica gun one means that it looks like the real version of the weapon, as opposed to the types of air guns that you can tell are obviously air guns at first sight (e.g. paintball guns). I was just clarifying that I assumed the term "replica guns" used in gallito's post meant realistic-looking air guns vs. the kind of air gun that does not look like a real firearm.

Wait until the government starts handing out subsidies to the ones that disarm, and their numbers will grow to 50,000.

About a year after we got our finca in Turbaco, the neighbors came to invite us to a meeting in another finca. Most finca owners are expats from different places and are not used to live in fincas wide open. Mine is completely closed with 10' concrete fence becaue I just have two acres. Well, back to the meeting. The teniente of the police and other policemen were invited also. The residents complained of dark road their way (not me) and that someone stole a pregnant yegua, another of a a couple of pigs missing and another with a disappeared cow. So what the teniente told us was to get a gun (they will sell you one) and also a two way radio connected to them which they will also sell you. He said if someone slips inside your property, to shoot him and drag him to the road then call them. lol. I left the place laughing my head off.
