Venezuela's armed forces put on a good show but I have the feeling that they are the ones who are very much afraid. Yes, Maduro will continue to shower the officer corps with all the comforts money can buy but the entire fabric of Venezuelan society is ripping apart. A ludicrous, luridly inept and rabid incompetence over-powered the fantastic advantages of a country with the world's largest proven reserves of oil. How could they possibly screw it up? If Chavez and Maduro had laid awake nights planning how to destroy the country they couldn't have done a better job.
Once again it's time for the tried and true invocation of special emergency governing powers and menacing finger pointing at the CIA coup plotters.

I remember reading, during the Falklans war, that after the Argies decided they really were South American after all and asked for help from their SA brothers, and most either ignored them, or like Chile, secretly sided with Britain. Venezuela was the exception and said it would send its fleet to help the Argies. Britain parked a sub just outside vennie waters and told them, in effect, that they would sink any of the vennie war canoes that left port. No vennie navy ships left port for the duration.

I'm pretty sure that the two ships behind the landing craft unloading the tank are old US Navy LSTs, probably given to them in the 60s. And the first photo was of a Browning 50 caliber machine gun. Kind of funny.
