World Health Organization (WHO) ranks the health system in Colombia as #22 globally, which is better than Canada (#30) or the US (#37). See: thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/. Read more: colombiaconnection.freeforums.net/posts/recent#ixzz4935b6saQThe factors behind this listing are not well explained, but I think that it deserves a dedicated thread as it is not a political issue. I think that many people here only see the health system for the bureaucracy, but despite the very low costs, the EPS hospitals do have some of the best doctors in the world and loads of dedicated and helpful nursing staff.

My experience with the Colombian EPS health system has been very good. I sometimes get frustrated with the bureaucracy, too... but then I step back and have to admit that I am geetting pretty decent healthcare here for very little money.

I signed up to the standard EPS years ago and enjoyed the regular dental check-ups. In many countries, dental care is not covered by the Health Services and can be very expensive indeed.

I dumped my dental insurance in the US which was costing me money, since it's cheaper in my experience out-of-pocket in Colombia for dental than it was with insurance in the US.
