First off, Lets make it clear I am not talking about Colombian Men
I am talking about the actual Dogs.
I was running up my Normal Running route Yesterday (My Birthday) ,in Manizales, a long serpentine road , about 5 KM with an elevation gain of about 250 m.
Well I t is a narrow sidewalk (about 2 m wide) with a traffic lane on the other side. I came around a treed corner , and suddenly there were 3 street dogs, barking aggressively at me. I couldn't go out into the street, as there were cars there. I was coming at a high velocity and couldn't stop and turn back. I tried to go around. I thought I made it Okay and one of the bastards bit me on the lower leg.
Hijueputa..I had to go to the clinic. Cleaned the wound, tetanus shot and Rabies shot. 4 more rabies shots in the next month, and another tetanus shot in a month. Have to go back to the clinic to clean the wound another time, plus taking heavy antibiotics for 2 weeks.
What a hassle. Same thing happened to my girlfriend a couple months ago.
Watch out for the wild street dogs in Colombia.

You should never run by strange dogs, either their prey instinct, or their defense mechanism will kick in.

Elex... Pretty much the same thing happened to me about 1 year ago. Tetanus shot, 4 stitches.. But in the case of the rabies shots.. The Dr. said, don't worry, There hasn't been a case of rabies in Cundinamarca in over 10 years so we don't give them.. Made me a little nervous. The poor next person that contracts will be sacrificed I guess. I was just finishing my run about 1 block from my house. I kept an eye on the dog for a couple weeks to make sure it was ok. After that I carry pepper spray and have nailed a couple since. But after one time getting sprayed they don't chase any more.

Yup,never run away or show fear...dogs react to fear for sure.Pero calleros tend to run in packs;compo dogs also.

people dont read my post. I came around a corner and there they were. I was running (at a fast pace)to work out not to get awat from them. I am thinking of getting pepper spray, one for me and one for my GF (to protect from the other type of Perros Colombianos), but in this case I couldnt have gotten the spray out fast enough.
In this case it was a case of stop and be bitten for sure , continue running and probably get bitten, or run out in the street and get hit by a car. I chose the second case.
Maybe my screaming didnt help.
I think if I had long pants on instead of shorts it would have helped.

What a hassle. Same thing happened to my girlfriend a couple months ago. Why did your girlfriend bite you, you must have done something terrible like sniffing strange butt's?

They have a place that sell pepper spray down at the local shopping mall. They are out of it this week.
I dont know about the pepper spray, Either I wont be fast enough or I will be spraying peoples dogs left right and center.
Ill never revert to running on a treadmill though.
Another thing that P$$es me off is I have expensive Medicina Prepagada medical insurance ...I went into emergency , no control, no order. The lady that was supposed to admit us told us to "wait for the doctor"... people just kept showing up..you never took any ticket or nothing..finally we asked the Vigilante why we were waiting for the doctor..we had Coomeva medicine..he said "ohh tienes Medicina Particular?" he took my medical card inside a door an about 15 minutes later the doctor called me in to the long process of getting registered, my wound cleaned and my first two injections.
Then to top it off, they charged me 45 mil COP for all this.I wonder how much all the other shots will cost. This is with the expensive medical plan. My Girlfriend has no insurance, and they did all the shots for less than 45 mil COP, because rabies and tetanus protection s a "Priority" of the ministry of health..
I wonder what happens if I have a heart attach and the ambulance doesnt show up?

Got to iterate my current medical insurance rant. I have developed "rotator cuff" damage in my left shoulder. Had an MRI and they say it needs to be repaired but here are the options from my wife's insurance company that also carries me. They will pay for a full medical surgery with all the associates negatives as recovery, hospital care during recovery etc. BUT they will not cover Orthoscopic surgery which can be done as an out patient, no hospital or recovery time. It appears like I have a "bone spur" on one of the cap bones and with Orth they can simply cut it off and good to go?. I don't get it?

I wonder what happens if I have a heart attach and the ambulance doesnt show up? That question actually has a pretty straightforward answer in most cases....
