For all the bitching and complaining I do here...chuckle...I suppose I need to point out some good stuff as well.
Mrs Daluz and are just about finished remodeling our 30 year old house in an estrata 3 neighborhood and even though there are a few things that irk me with how the job went, overall I'd rate the job a solid "B".
It did help that I have a basic construction background and that her kids are in the trades so we were able to weed out any bad contractors as we went.
Home Center, even though a bit more expensive a a few items was my go to place as they accepted my US bank credit card without issue and I always got a great conversion rate. Additionally, no matter what Home Center we used, to include the big one at Mall Plaza in Bogota, we had free delivery which was actually quick and free.
We used Amazon for other smaller items like the electric sockets with USB outlets and also for GFI outlets for the kitchen and baths as the ones in country were either odd looking Chinese things or way too expensive.
The 20% that we couldn't get right included the wall paint and corners. I looked all over for a semi gloss paint and everyone looked at me like I had three heads...come to find out maybe what I needed to ask for was hospital paint??? I'll have to look. Also, if you look at the corners/edges of the walls, they are a bit wavy. Nothing crazy and you'd need to know to look, but this was a level of craftmanship not obtainable by the workers. I gave up after several do overs.
The last thing I wasn't too amused about was the use of particle board for a new closet. I guess I needed to better define what wood is and should have checked so that is one me. It looks okay, but not a fan or particle board.
All in all, 80% and after 15 years here will take it as a win. Be well.
