Event: Violent criminal actors continue to attack members of the Colombian Security Forces through targeted assassinations. Many of the actions have been carried out in the northwest Departments of the country, including Antioquia, Choco, Bolivar, and Sucre, among others. Over the last two months, a significant number of Colombian Security Forces have been victims of an assassination campaign, with attacks occurring on a regular basis. Colombian Security Forces are on high alert throughout Colombia, particularly within areas with strong presence of criminal actors. Additional Colombian security personnel have been deployed to the most impacted communities.
The U.S. Department of State advises citizens to reconsider travel to Colombia due to crime and terrorism, and to exercise increased caution in Colombia due to civil unrest and kidnapping. The full Travel Advisory for Colombia can be found here.
