Vaccine inequities expose humanity to variants, Colombia's Duque tells U.N. General Assembly BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombian President Ivan Duque told the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that the international community must equitably distribute COVID-19 vaccines to avoid the creation of new, more fearsome variants of the coronavirus. The South American country is aiming to vaccinate at least 70% of its 50 million inhabitants. Production delays at vaccine manufacturers have left some Colombians waiting for doses in recent weeks. "I call on the international community to strengthen multilateralism in regards to health and advance in vaccine distribution equity. It is our moral duty," Duque said during his speech to the 76th assembly. "If delays in the equal distribution of vaccines continue in all countries we, humanity, are exposed to new variants attacking us with greater ferocity. Global immunity requires solidarity, so hoarding cannot exist in the face of others' needs," Duque said. Some countries have acquired enough doses for six or seven times their population and have announced third booster doses, he added, while others have not been able to administer any shots. There have been more than 126,000 COVID-19 deaths in Colombia, according to health ministry figures. Some 16.1 million people in the Andean country are fully vaccinated and another 22.4 million have been given a first dose. us.yahoo.com/news/vaccine-inequities-expose-humanity-variants-164212406.html

If you really believe the Wordometer stats, which come directy from MiniSalud data, Colombia has reached herd immunity, mostly by the high infection rate over the last several months (or even last 12 to 18 months), rather than the Vaccine. Myself, I dont know what to believe 100%, take everything with a grain of salt, but have not heard of that many people sick with COVID recently in Colombia, as compared to the last wave (which was the worst) April through June, when I knew many people who got it...some really bad..

that just tells me the vaccine doesnt work and the virus was made in a lab Lab thing could be right. And yes the Vaccines lose efficacy with time, that is well established in medical journals In the last FDA meeting (you can read about it on WSJ-I highly recommend WSJ- the most unbiased, factual and competent MSN news site) Pfizer execs were pushing for boosters, basically admitting their vaccine had diminishing effect with time The FDA "Experts"..shut them downn and only recommended boosters age 65 and older Myself, I got 2 vacs in order to travel, and because the infection rate was so high in Colombia- I will be a lot less enthusiastic about a booster, unless these stupid "Passport " mandats change to require boosters, or after investigating the risks (including infection rates in areas I travel to, future data on Pfizer efficacy versus time after inculation, etc.) in a scientifically critical matter, I deem it is necessary Right now with me in Colombia I see no need. Also , hopefully this "Delta Variant" fourth wave madness will die down soon

that just tells me the vaccine doesnt work and the virus was made in a lab What warped mindset allows you to make silly observations from a useful story on vaccine distributions. If the vaccine did not work, many of us would be dead by now, myself included. Whether the virus came from a lab or not may be found out much later in the future, but is totally irrelevant. It is here now and spreading rapidly.

mudd: as you should well know, no vaccine is guaranteed 100% effective and the Covid vaccines have been developed in a great hurry for an urgent need.
Even only 90% is a good result and I can testify that Covid after vaccination is a short, mild illness requiring no medicines or hospitalisation.
There is absolutely no reason not get vaccinated.

Tubes , it isnt any more intelectually honest for you to say with 100% certainty you would have died if you hadnt been vaccinated with that cheap Chinese vacccine, than Mudd saying the vaccine doesnt work (or the virus was produced in a Chinese lab)
All 3 statements are just based on personal conjecture, and have not been vetted by actual experience or conclusive scientific proof.
Though I would have to say, of the 3 statements, the phrase "The vaccine doesnt work" is the weakest intelectually, and is contrary to existing medical statistics..at least in the short term.
In the longer term, 6 months after vaccination, like in the case of Israel, he does have a point, as based on present available information, the mRNA vaccine efficacy (particularily Pfizer) drops off significantly
I dont know about the Chinese vaccine, because it is non mRNA, but the efficacy starts off at a low point from the get go-50% according to published literature

Even only 90% is a good result and I can testify that Covid after vaccination is a short, mild illness requiring no medicines or hospitalisation. This is one of the biggest tropes put out is how you have a mild case if you get Covid after vaccination. Many unvaccinated people have had covid and didn't even know they had it. To speculate that your case was mild because you were vaccinated is without merit. Comorbidities in many cases are meaningless also. I have an elderly neighbor. 85 years old. Bad kidneys, high blood pressure, diabetic and overweight, had a stroke 3 years ago and can barely use one side of his body. He got covid before the vaccines were available and we all figured it would be a death sentence for him. A week later he was as good as prior. Said it was like the flue for him. If he had been vaccinated they would have claimed the vaccine had saved his life and it was a mild case because of the vaccination. There is no evidence that being vaccinated makes your case less virulent. It could, but how can you prove it was the vaccine?

Elex: I never said that I would have died if I hadn't been vaccinated, but I doubt that I would have been able to recover rapidly at home without.
Mudd saying the vaccines don't work is obvious rubbish and contrary to medical statistics.
Where the virus originated is now totally irrelevant but will probably be researched better in the future.
I do agree that Sinovac has a doubtful efficacy but even only 50% gives you a fighting chance.

There is no evidence that being vaccinated makes your case less virulent. It could, but how can you prove it was the vaccine? Once again wild conjecture based on a sample size of One (1). As I told you several times I know athletic people who were in as good as shape as you, or even better, (on a mountain guide who climbed several 8000 m peaks in the Himalaya, including Everest) unvaccinated, and much younger, who were in ICU on ventalitors for a long time, and ended up with long COVID- It is "Russian Roulette".. So my data is also conjecture , but based on a larger "sample" than yours The REAL proof is current statistics coming out of the ICU wards in Western Canada (and many in the US) is that 90% of the current ICU cases are from people with one vaccine or unvaccinated, wu¿ith the majority being unvacinated What is even more damning is that the Non-vaxxed make up only 30% of the population in Alberta, and even a smaller % of the Adult population. You figure the math out.
