I am interested in other combat veterans reactions to withdrawal, bomb attacks today. I am super sad/mad and more than feel helpless. Joe

This quoted from former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger: "The United States has torn itself apart in its counterinsurgent efforts because of its inability to define attainable goals and to link them in a way that is sustainable by the American political process," Kissinger wrote. "The military objectives have been too absolute and unattainable and the political ones too abstract and elusive. The failure to link them to each other has involved America in conflicts without definable terminal points and caused us internally to dissolve unified purpose in a swamp of domestic controversies."
Kind of like Yogi Berra would say, "It's like deja vu all over again!" In essence he states that we tried to make Afghanistan a democratic ruled entity with people who essentially knew nothing about it. Here is the full article. Biden gets the credit for ending it, but this goes back in time to where the USSR pulled out, (what we often referred to as 'their Vietnam'), and the US went in to fill the vacuum(again). We didn't take it in earnest until 9/11. Here is the link to the article. You will sit there and shake your head. The man is old as dirt but he still keeps his pulse on the US state of affairs! www.foxnews.com/media/henry-kissinger-america-failed-afghanistan

Joe I think you are the only veteran on this forum who has actually seen combat Joe There was that Jafo guy but he took off after a while I always respected the opinion and experience of the veterans like yourself who actually saw combat, rather than the Blowhard pencil pushers. You always seem to have amore baalnced, compassionate view point

elexpatriado said: I wasn't technically 'boots on the ground' being in the US Navy. However being a 'small cog' in a 'war machine' like an aircraft carrier, I did participate in some hostile environments. We were part of the Multi-Peace Keeping Forces' in Lebanon. Also we were co-lead during Operation El Dorado Canyon in 1986. I did meet up with a UH-1 driver who was there in Vietnam at my workplace. He had a few 'interesting stories' to tell. But everyone plays a part and one position is no less or no more important than the other. If you don't do your job, the whole machine comes to a stop!
