Venezuela Authorizes International Flights between Four ‘Brotherly' Countries
The National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC), Venezuela’s civil aviation body, authorized outbound and inbound flights between four “brotherly” countries on Monday.
CARACAS – The National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC), Venezuela’s civil aviation body, authorized outbound and inbound flights between four “brotherly” countries on Monday.
INAC said in a short statement published on their Instagram account (Twitter has suspended INAC's twitter account) that commercial flights with Turkey, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Iran will be allowed while restrictions of aerial operations throughout the national territory will be maintained starting Monday, excepting only those at the Los Roques Airport on Gran Roque island in the Los Roques archipelago off the coast of mainland Venezuela.
Also exempt from the restrictions are emergency operations, cargo and mail flights, technical stopovers, humanitarian flights, repatriation, and/or fights authorized by the United Nations as well as cargo/commercial overflights.
Passengers “will have to comply with the preventive social quarantine under strict supervision from the State,” while flights should get a previous clearance from authorities besides guaranteeing biosecurity measures provided for by the protocols.
Previously on Sunday, INAC cleared four local airlines to resume both domestic and international flights during the first week of December, local daily El Estímulo reported on Sunday.
This way, Conviasa, Aeropostal, Láser, and Estelar were cleared for takeoff because they complied with all the biosecurity and operating requirements, the newspaper said. The remaining five Venezuela-based carriers (Ravsa, Avior, Rutaca, Turpial, and Albatros) will have their aircrafts grounded until further notice.
Regular flights were suspended by Venezuelan authorities on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
