What are people going to do in time of lockdown? My mother lives in Spain, and they are experiencing lockdown right now.
Here are some obvious ideas:
1) Online food deliveries: Online grocery stores (search the internet for local ones), online restaurant delivery (UberEats, SkipTheDishes). Online deliveries in general: Amazon, Walmart, etc.
2) Online entertainment: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Steam (video games) 3) Good old fashioned board and card games with the family
4) Walks in the park. I'll be out mountain biking soon (especially as the ski hills are now shut), but will avoid that activity if I read about hospitals getting overwhelmed. I have been known to crash and end up in hospital to get patched up before... 5) Use technology to stay in touch with friends and family. Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp. 6) Financial. This must be a big concern for the self-employed, entertainment industries, or small businesses. Not everyone can work from home. Stock portfolios have taken a bashing, and will continue to do so. If (when?) my stock portfolio goes down 50% I'll be looking to buy leveraged ETF's with a high percentage of tech/internet firms such as QLD. You'll notice a lot of the above are tech based ideas. Companies such as Microsoft will be back to their all time highs at some point. Travel ETFs will also be worth a look at some point. An airline ETF is JETS.
Any other ideas?

I went out yesterday and bought a month's worth of food and other things we will need to get by. Just in case . We've been installing a new roof over the patio on the back porch and installing ceramic tile on the patio floor. Also going to remove the adobe roof tiles on the second floor roof, and replace them with asphalt shingles. Tomorrow I'll go to the homecenter in Rio Negro and get the rest of material I need to finish both jobs. This will keep me busy for a week or so. After that, we'll probably go down to the river to drink and fish. - JAMES

For god sakes dont sell your stocks when they go to 50%or even 25%. tHEY WILL EVENTUALLY GO BACK UP. My stocks all pay dividends and I have enough spare cash to see me through for at least 2 or 3 years even if they cut dividends.
And I can easily cut back on expenses, espescialy with the cheapPeso, and staying away from the Gold Diggers.
And even the Gold Diggers will get a lot less demanding as the supply of foreigner Betas coming here and lack of cash in general dries up.

I build Netflix, Amazon, etc. film sets for a living and all production stopped for minimum two weeks - I am definielty not spending my finally free time watching the same shows I spend 12 hours a day working on!
- NYC is dead so an overnight bikeride soilunds perfect. - Just had a MOS surgery, one more planned and on my way to the dentists now. - Parents over last night, I will visit them too. - Already prepped lawn and garden and yes, took down the Christmas lights yesterday, I will miss them. - Find a colorist for an old project I never have time for. - Insurance paperwork, financial planning, going through old stuff to toss, fix the toilet etc.
Basically everything that I usually have no time to do. I did consider travel but not now.

elex - I think a many people read your post because we've been getting a lot of calls from folks who want to know if they can come out and visit us on our farm for "a few days." Many people who we haven't seen or talked to in years. Luz has been telling them that they are welcome, but not until this virus thing wears down. Until then, only immediate family. Several of these "friends" started swearing at her when she turned them down. Such is life. - JAMES

Most countries are advising against 'Go to a farm'.
They want people in the cities where they can get help and medical care.

Yes good to keep busy. I've bought some exercise cables that you can attach to doors in the home to get a semblance of a work out.
It tends to rain quite a lot here in March, but sunny for a few days right now. Will take the bike out.
If you have Roon and Tidal, it's a great way to find new music. Just play a track you like in Roon, and Roon/Tidal will start playing music similar to the track just played. I've found a ton of new music the last year or so.

It's a little late to think of things to do,I've been in lock down mode since mid Jan.China lock down was the most difficult having no WiFi sucked. Back home in Canada we're stocked up with essentials, hard drive full of movies, Netflix, car is tanked up.Inside cleaning, yard work and short walks for fresh air and exercise, of course we avoid human contact.

The virus pandemic will test our staying power and our abilities to deal with a major crisis.Cable companies and internet providers, telecommunication companies should step forward and forgo fees, offer cable for free.Forums such as ours offer a place for members to meet, connect, and as well keep us from going insane, well that may be to late for some of us jejeje.I'm going to put a sticky on this thread so as to leave it open for discussions, and as usual some entertainment value for all.Any lurkers out there, now's your time to sign in and be part of our community, you may have something to add....a story to tell or just need some virtual company.Let's keep this thread civil, positive, tasteful, put your differences aside, posters who can't keep it on base can go to "The Pit" Humorous, banter, songs, limericks, word games,music...anything to keep us entertained. We are all in this together;we will pull through this together, have faith!

4 pm PST, happy hour in my time zone. The virtual bar is open, first rounds on me. I found this mighty fine McGuigan black label red wine, rather palatable if I do say so...it was $6 off not to shabby. Cheers!

BC is encouraging people to go outside and visit the local parks. I met a buddy at one near me, but we were sure to keep our social distancing. He had his weed vape and I bought mine as well. We usually share a single vape, but you can never be too sure at the moment.
The sun was out. Beautiful day. People sitting on blankets were keeping a good distance from one another.
I cancelled my upcoming May/June vacations and bought another bike.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, my wife last week had a laparoscopic hysterectomy. They sent he home the same day. The following night she developed severe abdominal pain in her lower right quadrant. I contacted the on-duty OB/GYN about it. He directed me to bring her to the ER to be evaluated. A CAT scan revealed she had an enlarged appendix, (whether it had burst they couldn't tell), and a decision was made to perform an emergency appendectomy. At 4:30 AM Wed. the surgeon told me she had removed the appendix and the right portion of her bowel, (non-laparoscopic). She also said that appendix was unremarkable but that the 'material' surrounding the appendix was different from what she has ever seen. The bowel was removed in case there was cancer but that we have to wait for the pathology report. Thursday night the doctor from urology said that the CAT scan showed her urethera irritated and enflamed along with her kidneys were in distress. They would have to perform surgery for a stent and to determine why the kidneys were distressed. The urology surgeon contacted me and said they found a hole in her bladder which they repaired along with inserting a stent. Now I am left with a woman who decided to have this procedure performed here in the US because she didn't trust having it in Colombia, full of gas after 3 back-to-back-to-back surgeries, and having to nurse her to health while I wait surgery for a torn rotator cuff! Please forgive me if I seem a little on edge!

Wow WS poor women hopes she feels better soon.I know how you feel my first wife contracted cancer and I was going through hell with a botched appendix procedure. It happened between Xmas and NY,the hospital was short staffed, nothing new there. The gastro surgeon was incompetent by the time he got around to oporate,he couldn't find my appendix however he did see a sack of puss in that area.WTF years, after it came back to haunt me and they finally operated and removed whatever was left.

My wife keeps moving the furniture. Normally I would say I liked it better where it was .... but for now I am going to keep my mouth shut ( in the interest of domestic harmony).

Yeah, the Urologist outright admitted that the hole in the bladder was from the hysterectomy, I suspect the appendectomy was too because one of the probes was located directly over top of the appendix and it was the material covering the appendix that was inflamed!

Weare rin a quarantine in Colombia and US has 10 times the infrction rate per capita as Colombia so it is only a matter of time when more and more cities and states go into Quarantine

People do what they want regardless of where they come from,Canadians are used to Government propoganda. It comes down to taking care of oneself and family, responsible behavior lies within. Obviously we can't agree with everything we hear on the news,be thankful for what you have, where you live is your choice make the best of it.
