2362 deaths as of this morning, almost 78.000 infected cases in 32 countries (2 new additional countries)
Over a 1000 infected cases and 8 deaths are known outside China's mainland now.
A 78 year old man in Italy has died, the first in a European country, with 8 new infected cases, now a total of 14 in Italy. A new measure by president Conte will quarantine anybody who had contact with any infected person. (Should be done worldwide in my opinion)
The virus seems to invade the Middle East now, Iran is reporting 4 deaths and 18 cases in 3 cities.
It is feared the virus will spread by infected people without symptoms witch makes prevention so much more complicated.
27 leading medical scientist from 9 Western countries including the US, UK and Australia released a signed statement in scientific magazine 'Lancet' saying this corona virus is not man-made but originates from bats, and most likely the Pangolin who is immune to the virus as an intermediary go between. The reason for the statement is to facilitate research by concentrating on scientific facts instead of wild, unsubstantiated rumors in some countries. So much for the theory of the virus having escaped from a Chinese biological warfare lab.
An old saying about China: Chinese will eat anything with 4 legs except a table and anything with wings except an airplane.

I read somewhere yesterday that there were 60 people just tested in the US but no results back yet. Even if only 1/2 are positive that would double the US cases. But it could be that they are testing anyone now, even if they just have the sniffles to be safe and head off any potential spread.

Now I am starting to worry just a little: A Colombian Air Force Boeing 767 left for Wuhan early today to land there on the 25th. and bring 13 Colombians home and 3 of their foreign family members to be quarantined for 14 days in a remote building along with the medical team which will accompany the flight. Included is a planned stop in South Korea! www.pulzo.com/mundo/coronavirus-ruta-avion-jupiter-fac-para-traer-colombianos-wuhan-PP850153Are they going to introduce the corona virus now in South America?

This young man seems to sensationalize the virus situation a bit. There are a lot of Chinese people in this world, more then 1.4 billion in China alone and millions scattered all over the world who have contact with family in China. It is very likely that some who are infected deny any personal contact with a person from China, Not in Italy and not in South Korea though.

One need only look at a single person like Mary Mallon, aka Typhoid Mary who spread that disease to many families she contacted. It all spreads out from there to others. I hate to beat a 'religious drum' here but I often wonder if this is God's, (or who ever your maker is), way of telling people that they have exceeded living norms and its time to learn another lesson in humanity!

Things are getting serious in Italy, 109 cases now, an increase from 43 practically over night, 28 critical (a high number for Italy).
The Italian government closed entire cities, nobody is allowed to enter or leave.
An increase of 57 infections on the Diamond Princess to a total of 690 now, one man died, 36 critical
Turkey closed it's borders with Iran to avoid infections. 10 dead in Iran now, 43 infections
123 new cases in South Korea, a total of 556 now, 10 deaths, 7 critical
19 deaths now outside of mainland China
China claims the numbers of deaths and infections are slowing down, but who is going to believe it. (100 in one day)

I hate to beat a 'religious drum' here but I often wonder if this is God's, (or who ever your maker is), way of telling people that they have exceeded living norms and its time to learn another lesson in humanity! Based on this statement, then the gods (over 2000 of them currently thought to exist in one form or another today?) must believe the human race is doing wonderfully well, as we haven't had a good disease or plague wiping out 1/3 of the population for a very long time:
Mother Nature has been taking a beating for a long time. There have been signs of the occasional fightback with AIDS and the Spanish Flu, but nothing that has managed to slow down the population rate.
This Coronavirus is starting to look quite interesting, but will it take down a sizeable percentage of the human race? I don't think so. Doesn't even seem to be 1/10th as deadly as the flu pandemic from 1918:
Heart disease today is still the biggest killer, and that tends to be self-inflicted or hereditary.

Well if this think does become a pandemic its at the very early stages. Really its just starting to get rolling outside China. But again for anyone thinking its overblown you see Italy is closing cities and many countries closing there borders. You dont see this reaction from the yearly flue. There is surely things they are not telling people.
I am also quite shocked there hasn't been a reported case in all South America.

Rightfully so!!!! 14 Corona Virus patients on a plane full of evacuees.. Brilliant. Trump Was Furious That Cruise Ship Passengers With Coronavirus Were Brought Back to U.S. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump was infuriated that 14 U.S. citizens who had tested positive for coronavirus were permitted to return this week to the United States, said two senior administration officials. The decision took the president, a self-declared “germophobe,” by surprise. Officials at the State Department decided to bring back the citizens, who had been quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan, after consulting with a senior official at the Department of Health and Human Services. But officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention objected, concerned that the passengers, among hundreds of Americans being evacuated from the ship, could spread the virus. News organizations reported on the decision on Monday, and the passengers arrived in the United States that day. Trump, furious at not having been briefed on the Americans who had tested positive, relayed his anger to Alex Azar, the health and human services secretary, and other top officials. They then alerted the White House interagency task force on the coronavirus, which Azar oversees. One official said Trump views shutting the borders to infected people as critical to keeping the country safe and wants to be seen as managing a proper response. The top State Department official on the task force is Stephen Biegun, the deputy secretary of state. During the early legs of a four-day trip to the West Coast meant to bolster his reelection effort, Trump paid close attention to Fox News’ coverage of the Diamond Princess that played aboard Air Force One. Word of Trump’s anger had already begun circulating among officials on Tuesday morning. The Washington Post first reported on it on Friday. In 2014, during an Ebola crisis in Africa, Trump, who was then a private citizen, angrily demanded that the Obama administration cancel flights and bar anyone infected with the virus from entering the country — including American medical workers who had gone to Africa to help. “KEEP THEM OUT OF HERE!” he wrote in a July 31 tweet after learning that one American medical worker would be evacuated to Atlanta from Liberia. “The U.S. cannot allow EBOLA infected people back,” Trump wrote on Twitter the next day, adding: “People that go to far away places to help out are great — but must suffer the consequences!” There have been at least 634 infections and two deaths from the Diamond Princess, which Japanese officials kept in isolation for two weeks at a port in Yokohama. That effort at a quarantine contributed to the virus’ rapid spread among passengers. The cluster from the ship is the largest concentration of coronavirus cases outside China, warranting its own category in data compiled by the World Health Organization. U.S. officials began a complex evacuation procedure for 328 passengers aboard the Diamond Princess on Sunday night. All had been examined by American medical experts and showed no symptoms of the coronavirus, Dr. William Walters, managing director of operational medicine at the State Department, and Dr. Robert Kadlec, assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the Department of Health and Human Services, said on Monday during a conference call with reporters. But as those passengers were bused to Haneda Airport in Tokyo early Monday morning, Japanese officials told American counterparts that laboratory tests for 14 passengers had come back positive, Walters said. The tests had been conducted two to three days earlier, but U.S. officials, believing the timing of the results would be “unpredictable” because of the volume of testing being done in Japan, began the evacuation without having all results in hand. American passengers who had already tested positive or who had displayed symptoms had been sent to hospitals in Japan, Walters said. After they learned that 14 passengers had tested positive, U.S. officials decided that the entire group set to leave Japan should be treated according to protocols the officials had developed for evacuees, Walters said. That meant continuing to transport those who had tested positive but putting them in isolation — behind sheets of plastic about 10-feet tall — at the rear of the two planes flying them back to the United States.Walters said on Monday that he and Kadlec reviewed the possible options after learning of the test results. “Then the question was simply this: Are these evacuees?” Walters said. “And do we follow our protocol? And the answer to that was yes on both accounts.” Kadlec added, “We had additional expertise and experienced eyes on these people and monitoring through the flight.” The planes landed at Travis Air Force Base in California and Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Most of the 14 passengers who had tested positive were then flown to Omaha, Nebraska for treatment and monitoring by experts at the University of Nebraska. Since then, Japanese officials have informed U.S. officials that several other passengers among the 328 brought back had also tested positive for coronavirus. On Friday, U.S. officials said at least 34 people inside the United States have the virus — 18 of them from the Diamond Princess. All of the 34 cases have been linked to overseas travel. There has been no sign yet of the virus spreading among communities in the United States. The State Department is closely monitoring U.S. citizens on board another cruise ship in Cambodia, the Westerdam, as well as Americans who have disembarked and are in hotels in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Those Americans are expected to travel onward at some point. One 83-year-old American woman from the ship traveled to Malaysia and tested positive for coronavirus. Walters said Monday that 92 U.S. citizens were still on board the Westerdam, while another 260 were in hotels in the Cambodian capital. About 300 U.S. citizens had left the country, but “only after testing by the government of Cambodia’s Ministry of Health,” he said. When asked whether the United States was thinking about arranging evacuation flights for the hundreds of Americans in Cambodia or elsewhere, Walters did not offer a direct answer. He said the State Department was “following very closely” the situation of U.S. citizens in places where coronavirus is prevalent and of citizens who are “having difficulty in returning to the United States because of the disruptions in the international airline industry, and flights, and so forth.” Separately, State Department officials say that thousands of Russia-linked social media accounts are spreading disinformation about the coronavirus, including a conspiracy theory that the United States is behind the outbreak. American monitors first identified the campaign in mid-January. Agence France-Presse reported the assessment on Saturday. “Russia’s intent is to sow discord and undermine U.S. institutions and alliances from within, including through covert and coercive malign influence campaigns,” said Philip T. Reeker, the acting assistant secretary of state for Europe and Eurasia. “By spreading disinformation about coronavirus, Russian malign actors are once again choosing to threaten public safety by distracting from the global health response.” us.yahoo.com/news/trump-furious-cruise-ship-passengers-165031258.html

The Spanish flu became a pandemic because antibiotics did not exist until the 1930s. The majority who was infected by the bird flue virus died of bacterial pneumonia and most could have been saved.

12 deaths in Iran, 61 confirmed cases. A government official from the city where the deaths occurred says at least 50 people have died from the virus.
Muslims are worried the virus could take hold in pilgrimage sites, like Mecca and Medina and kill hundreds of thousands if not more.
South Korea is blaming the outbreak on a religious group the government is calling immoral and calls for outlawing the group become stronger by the day.

I'm reading all of this with bated breath, some seriously noidy shyte on here. I evacuated Shanghai Feb 2;last flights leaving China for US.Trip to PVG was pretty surreal;we had trouble finding anyone to drive us to the airport. We live on edge of Shanghai district,2 hours from PVG airport. My gf put out a request on Wechat, after a couple of cancellations we secured a ride for 6am,flight was at 1:30pm.The driver showed up on time,he didn't exit the car,we loaded up the trunk with my luggage.I slid in the back seat, the driver was wearing a toque, ski goggles, disposable plastic raincoat, gloves and a canister style respirator.Ok I was underdressed I wore reading glasses and my 3m mask.my gf jumps in other side, off we go;well my gf developed a cough the previous week and she started to hack, driver eyed her in rear view mirror asked if she was sick,of course she said no.We hit the Anting checkpoint entering Shanghai, waiting were several cops and what appeared to be medical staff dressed in hazmat suits holding temperature guns, quickly gave us a once over and checked our story and drivers ID.Off we went;the highway was empty, scary site for a city of 24 million with the usual gridlocked traffic. We breezed into airport with 1 WC pitstop;entering airport another medical check was added to the usual heavy security detail.Once we cleared that we looked for our check in line,we were rather early. We looked for somewhere without to many people to sit and wait, well the airport was full, everyone was decked out in masks and assorted saftey gear.We quickly found 4 empty seats and took them over:a quick glance to see who was sitting around us.Across from us was a mixed bag of passengers;2 guys caught my eye, hard to avoid these dudes decked out in safety gear...bright yellow disposable rain jackets, buttons straining under load and a few rips, ski goggles, full hats.I made a feeble attempt to break the ice I eyed one of them and asked if they were flying to SFO,he said si,hmm I thought this guy could be a latino.I asked him where he was from he said Colombia,I said which city,Bogota he answered.Well I decided to have some fun as my Spanish is pretty good,I said I was also from Bogota jejeje we were manos.Apparently he was married to a Shanghai lady, they lived in Melbourne, were visiting family for Chinese New Year. They owned an Asian restaurant in Melbourne;they spent the week like everyone else in China, locked down at home with family. This New Year was coined "the special NY" we had a lot to talk about,I kept him laughing. We parted company,he sat in another seat and I gave him a few nods while stretching my legs. Ok to add to your speculation he was off to Bogota

Well we are just 5 min. outside a small town and 45 min to 1 hour depending on traffic from the big city. If we are able to self quarantine we should be in good shape. We have done some minor prepping. Beans and rice. 5 gallon bottles of drinking water are normal here and we have 6 of them. (in an emergency we have a pool. lol) We had stocked up on meat in the freezer and my wife had frozen a lot of fresh vegetables. Well the last couple weeks we have dwindled some of this stuff. So before the weekend we will stock back up on the things we have depleted. If we hear about a SA outbreak we will probably do some serious stocking up. We still are out on the beach every day, so its not like we have to be cooped up in the house. We have a 3 mile long beach out front, and if we go out at low tide and walk the whole length, we maybe will see 8 or 10 people counting the fishermen. We have home delivery of groceries if we need and I will just leave the money at the gate if it gets bad and wipe down packaging if something is delivered during an infection outbreak. I feel pretty confident we can stay infection free. The problem I see is an outbreak could realistically last 3 or 4 months. With a potential 3 week incubation period the virus could be around you for weeks before anyone gets sick and you would have to assume there are still silent cases until 3 weeks after the last known case is cured to be 100% safe.

Its funny that Iran says the numbers they are giving are accurate. They show 95 cases and 15 deaths. It that's true they have a 16% death rate. So either they have a serious mutant strain or they have a ton of undiagnosed people.
I have a feeling there numbers are as accurate as China's
