Also called 'dia de las velitas'.
Put all your candles out on the doorstep and invite your friends around to sit around the campfire. I asked my wife what is the purpose of this curious event. Her answer, "It's not for nothing......only to invite your friends to dinner and a few drinks."
So in other words it is another excuse for a party.

It's actually to celebrate the Immaculate Conception. My sis in law just found that out when we informed her last night.

According to this link, wp.me/p3IvEl-mJ it was started in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. I have also read that for years many countries celebrated with the candles, but now Colombian is only one of the few left doing such.
