Anyone here cut cable TV and just sign up for internet?
I have Claro at home and pay close to $200k for cable tv (hardly any premium channels), landline phone and internet.
I'm thinking of getting rid of Claro all together and getting just ETB for internet (not sure if they would include phone). I hardly ever watch TV except for local news. Mostly use Netflix and watch stuff I buy on Apple.

I've got a MAG box but have been underwhelmed with the channels freezing to the point it's unwatchable. All these new things have such a steep learning curve...

I got an Android bx, or a firestick , comnected to the TV. If you buy one on Amazon they come fully loaded but you can download the apps you want anyway. Personally the 50-100 buvks is worth it for loaded. There's an app called KODI, that lets you connect to something called Exodus. Technically I think Exodus lets you stream people who put pirate stuff on the web. But you don't download anytjing, so no viruses, etc. You click on Showtime and watch all the Nurse Jacky you want. The live, regualar channel streams are soso, but it's great for movies and ANY TV channel history. kodi.tv/downloadI even downloaded it on my phone, Who wants some Telecafe?

I wish some of you Tech type posters would start a thread about what is new and what works in Stream Boxes, Apps,TVs,etc etc etc.Maybe the Forum could flag it so it stays up top of the threads.
Being out of the bigger cities you are very limited.I have Internet, Netflix and stream my news thru youtube.Direct TV was a joke with their billing, I dropped them .

I guess I should consider myself lucky for having DSL, (which for speed and quality is about a notch up from Amish Internet, dial-up). I can't even use any kind of cell phone here. I have to use, (when it works and doesn't drop out)an network extender. If you were to look on Verizon Wireless's coverage map, zoom in on northeastern PA you will see there is a little white spot signifying no coverage. That is where I live. It is very frustrating to stream anything!

I used it for a while but it lacked when it came to regular TV channels which is what I want. CNBC, FOX news, and HLN (for Forensic Files) is all I'm looking for. Well, maybe a pay per view UFC every now and then too...

I downloaded Kodi a while ago on my my laptop. Generally I am pretty good with electronic stuff but it was a royal pain to try to navigate and run the app. I gave up after a few tries. A guy at work said his 12 yr old programmed all there tvs. I may have to have him set me one up before I move back down.

Put Exodus on Kodi and use that. All channels- not live but archived- genres, movies, TV, etc. The others are not really needed.

I just watched all of Black Sails and will start Vikings.
Anyone watch "The Americans"? I worked on it but have yet to find anyone that watched it. Would rather know before investing 50+ hours of TV time.

If you want to watch a show about really twisted people, watch It Is Always Sunny in Philadelphia, funny as hell...if you like characters with absoulutely no redeeming qualities.

Talking about a bunch of characters with no redeeming qualities ...... how about a new TV series called Colombia Connections? We already have a great cast!

All I wanted was a good, reliable internet connection but at the time UNE was the only provider I could find that didn't force me to bundle up with the "hundreds" of TV channels. With Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube I'm pretty well set. Don't sell YouTube short. Just type in any subject that interests you and you're off to the races.

I use a bundled package;land line, cable, internet (Shaw) $150/month internet is bottom rung 15 speed;found out how slow it was when company uploaded 850 mb took 2 hours. My son loads up my external hard drive with movies and shows from a torrent site.My brother supplies the Netflix on a family plan.

We HAD Directv since we moved here because it was the only sat tv available in our area back then. Ditto for COMCEL (now Claro) for cell phone/internet. Ditched Claro about 3 years ago for Movistar, which has better cel coverage here and faster internet, for about 1/3 the price. Last month we kissed DTV goodbye for UNE. Same deal. Exact same channels (more HD though) as DTV, but only 77mil/month vs DTV at 175mil/month. The DTV rep flat refused to reduce the cost of their service when we called to tell them we were considering changing providers. When we told him we were cancelling, he changed his tune but too late then. Besides DTV's HD service sucked. We have a lot of momentary electrical dropouts during storms and the DTV HD boxes always took at least 15 minutes to reboot. Switched over to UNE and so far so good. The UNE boxes have built-in battery backup so after a power interruption they come right back up.
Our son (the computer guru) worked his hacking magic and we now get live streaming from the ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox channels out of Atlanta. Plug the laptop into the HDMI port on the tv and enjoy.

james I have stuck with Claro only because it is the only Cell that works just about everywhere in my area.Tigo and Moviestar stops always gave bad signal or none at all when you got 3 km from town.My friends that live in Chia have Moviestar and it works great for them even when they visit my place I am sure it has gotten alot better.

Our farm is at the peak of the mountain on the road going north out of Alejandria. The Movistar tower is maybe 1 km away. We had great service with Comcel, but when CLARO took over, they adjusted their antenna signal pattern, and the signal at our place went from 4 bars to 1 (on a good day), and our internet didn't work at all.

To tell you the truth, Kodi is sort of under investigation, Exodus is not getting much support either. However, you should invest on a Android TV Box that is at least 5.0 so you can load Krypton 17.3 to be able to run smoothly. If not, then you are forced to use 16.4 but you will be without many futures. Mine is a Q-box which I paid $50 on eBay and is a 6.0 and works super. Then you can load the APK named Terrarium TV which is the only thing I use to stream any movie or TV show. Is amazing and 100 times better than Exodus. Of course, if you are into sports then also install another APK named Mobdro. Still, in Kodi you can install Sportsdevil to stream any sport you would like to watch.
No need to load a million things when Terrarium TV is all you need and you even find movies in 4K. Also has Netflix for free. I watched "The Shack" when it was still at the theaters. I have always found any movie here in Terrarium TV and all the shows. Loads much faster than the primitive Exodus.
Keep in mind that you should have at least 10 megs speed to stream.
If you are new to this, it will sound like something from 3 generations ahead, but once you learn, you will be hooked to it and become an expert. Of course, just go to youtube University and search for whatever you need install or how to program your Android TV box.
Happy streaming.

Oops, forgot to mention that I have not used any of these gadgets in Colombia because no internet at my finca, but if you do, you should also subcribe to a good streaming VPN so you don't get blocked.

Are they "live", for example CNBC the financial channel streaming live? Does it have FOX news live? What about "freezing"? Thats the major annoyance with my MAG box and service.

I am not sure of the channels you mentioned. I don't look for them, but you will have to try it out and look for your own stuff. I have not tried the Fox News because I have links to watch it on my satellite receiver. Hey, must be you are a Trump man, lol.
You will get some freezing with android tv box when streaming live sports, but with good internet speed it will be very little.
