A curious thing happened last week at the American Airlines counter in Cali when I checked in for a trip to the US. Upon seeing the resident visa in my passport the agent, a stern looking twenty something woman asked me what I do in Colombia. I said nothing special, I'm retired. She said from here or the US? I said the US. Then she said how do you get your money here? I thought whoa and pretended I didn't understand the question. This wasn't idle banter it was interrogatory and she asked again. So I said oh it's not a problem. It was apparent she didn't like my answer but at that point she had to finish up my check in and let me be on my way. So sheesh! What's this new wrinkle? Is DIAN coaching airline agents to ask such questions or did I just get a real busy body at the counter?

I would say
" I live on a frugal pension. I really watch where I spend my money. After this conversation, I am well convinced that I will be flying United, Avianca, or Spirit from now on.Thank you.

I would have told her I was a Gigolo and that I just started accepting new clients.
