Most likely many of you have visited the hot springs in Santa Rosa de Cabal. I've been there 4 times myself. Last weekend, my wife and I and another couple stayed at the Hotel Termales de Santa Rosa de Cabal for the first time. I might add that we really enjoyed our 2 nights and 3 days at the resort. When we arrived, the place was virtually empty, but as the weekend arrived, more hotel guests and day trippers came. Lesson learned, go on a weekday. The hotel is 1 km past the public hot springs which are usually cram-packed with bus loads of tourists and "Dia del Sol" participants from nearby Santa Rosa, Pereira and Dos Quebradas.
The hot springs are very relaxing and soothing. The view of hot and cold chorros from the mountain top is spectacular. The hotel has two pools and several small personal sized hot tubs. The small hot tubs are located in the wings of the new and old dormitories of the resort. A 4-story bath house/bar/spa separates the larger pool from the smaller "For Hotel Guests Only" pool. We stayed in the old section of the hotel. Even though the new dormitory has more modern accommodations, we enjoyed the coziness of the rustic "Swiss Chalet" feel of the older section. Plus the old section sets right next to the hot springs which allows you to enter the springs from your room in less than 2 minutes.
Our plan included breakfast... which I might add was quite good. Lunch and dinner can be ordered al la carte, and is reasonably-priced (by resort standards). Drinks from the bar are somewhat pricey (eg a bottle of Ron Viejo de Caldas costs 70 mil). Fortunately, we brought our own stash consisting of German brandy and French wine. (You just need to be discreet when consuming it).
I was impressed with the entire staff at the hotel. Every employee was helpful, courteous and enthusiastic. The staff is well-organized, and stands tall and proud. Management has done an excellent job of training its employees.
Normally, the room rate for a twin goes for around 270 mil. My wife scored an offer on Groupon for 330 mil for two nights and breakfast for two. The website lists the different types of plans and rates for the hotel: www.termales.com.co/en/ .
I think our next Colombia trip will be to Villa de Leyva. It's a long haul from Rionegro, but with 4 licensed drivers, the trip won't be too bad. We plan in stopping at the hot springs in Paipa as well. All in all, it was a relaxing weekend, and we'll probably do it again sometime in the future. However, 2 nights at the resort is sufficient... after 2 days, I was beginning to get bored of relaxation and tranquility.

I recall posting some waterfall shot's and the stream running through the resort;they can be viewed on in "Colombia Pictures" Travel thread.
@vago Did you pop into Santa Rosa de Cabal to sample the chorizo?

Of course. We used to eat at Choripaco, but found a better chorizo at Fogon Paisa. Colombian salchichas and chorizos usually don't impress me, but this one did!

I have also been there a number of times and have some important advice to offer. On the first several visits I always went during the winter months but the last time was in the summer. The days on that visit were warm to hot and entering the pools of hot water wasn't appealing at all! The only relief was in the coolness of the night enjoying the pool next to the hotel. Every time I've gone around Christmas the ambient air temperatures/water temperatures have been perfect so for me that is the time to go.

I agree with you that the hot water is not a great pleasure on hot days, which is probably why many people go in the evenings. With the surrounding high mountains, the sun is lost quite early in the evening and the temperature is very pleasant. The hotel at the end of the long track has the fun of a hot water fall at one end of the pool and cold water at the other end, so you can chose your temperature.

Always enjoy your trip reports Vago. During my last trip to Pereira I made sure to also visit the hot springs. Great few days. Maybe in 5 - 10 years I'll make the area my permanent home.
