Apparently there are a couple of dodgy operators building apartment buildings in Medellin. I was reading a thread on an other forum where they are 'naming and shaming' said builders.......but the problem is not just happening in Medellin......it is also a problem in Bogota and I suspect in other cities.
Our experience:
We knew a few people that had bought 'off the plan' in Bogota and had done well out of it, as an investment because the initial purchase price was substantially lower than the value of the completed apartment........so my wife decided to give it a shot. It was a relatively small block, maybe 8 or 10 apartments and the builder was a medium size operation as opposed to a 'group'. The job was finished on time.....but actually it wasn't really finished. The individual buyers were handed the keys to their apartments and they paid the balance owing but there was still work in 'common areas' and the exterior of the building that was not finished as per the contract. Now there is multiple problems such as water leaking into the apartments......and the owners are trying to raise money as a group to take the builder to court.
Personally, I wouldn't take the risk.
Anyone else experienced problems with buying off the plan?

Tempted, but never did for the reasons you just described.
