The blog sucked! You live in Florida and you don't need to go on allin holiday to see it. San Andres has duty free booze and its a quick stopover on the way to Old Providencia

I guess she has always wanted to go, growing up in Medellin just about any beach looks pretty good including Cartagena, from the reviews of San Andres it seems to be at best an average Caribbean island, not trying to downgrade it, its just does not seem to having anything special going for it other than it is a part of Colombia. Easy to get to from Colombia - but I tell her does not make sense for us - we have to fly south to Colombia and then take another flight back north to just off Nicaragua vs a 30 minute flight to Marsh Harbor in the Abacos ( from my understanding Colombians don't need a visa to go to Bahamas - of course we could always go to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico using her green card.

All Colombians would like to visit San Andres and it's a great place to visit for a few days with your girl. The beaches on the southern end of the island and quiet and beautiful. Hire a golf buggy from the north of the island and do a complete loop. Easy to do in a day.

Why not take her to Golfo de Morrosquillo;Islas San Bernardo are as tropical as it gets and that coast is close to Medi. Tolú,Coveñas,San Antero, any of them would make a home base. You can rent a beach house and invite the gang. San Andres is a convenient get-away for Colombians;5 day package deals leaving from Medi are relatively inexpensive. Not tying to rain on her picnic,I've been there on 6 or so times, comming from Bogie.

We are going for our 2nd vacation there in 9 years. 3.125.000,00 COP, 5 day/4 night, 2 adults, all inclusive (air fare from Medellin, food, alcohol, entertainment, taxes) 3 star resort. To me it's similar to any other Caribbean island, but I do enjoy watching the Colombians enjoy themselves. They seem to really love San Andres.

It's hard to getaway from people watching on San Andres;most likely you're the one being watched.

I recently visited San Andrés and wasn't too impressed. If I went back it would probably be to do more scuba and get certified. I'd like to visit Providencia though.

Old Prov is a better for diving and overall a more authentic Island experience...it's as if time had stopped. Taganga is another good and cheap option to get a dive cert. Not the best place but a good place to start diving instructions. Talk to Max @ www.poseidondivecenter.com/index.shtml
