The 24 Banderas Rojas-Red Flags
If you follow all these rules, either you will find the perfect mate, or will be single (but happy and having a lot of fun!!) until you have one foot in the grave.
Any comments?
Below are 24 Banderas Rojas/Red Flags relating to Colombian women. Are they too negative? Should we be giving them the benifit of the doubt when these come up? When a "Red Flag " comes up, do we analyze it further, or dump her, depending where you are in the relationship? Obviously, some of them, like Number 18, you will just have to acccept and manage.
Are there any other "Red Flags" you guys would like to add?
1. If she always talks about a sick child or relative. Be afraid
2. She would only leave her life of a strip dancer, hooker or "bar maid", if she had the money to go back to school. Be afraid.
3. If she asked for money like a wife when she's only a fiance or girlfriend. Golddigger comes to mind.
4. If she has children and she asks you for help with them, you have to wonder where's the dad? And if he's still alive. Why did she give this man more than one child. Well this equals bad judgement. This is a bad indicator
5. If she has a circle of friends and relatives that are unfaithful and put "cachos" on their boyfriends. Guess what. You "girlfriend" is one of them cachistas you fool.
6. If you find out you are NOT her first gringo/british/other boyfriend. RUN
7. If she asks you for money or a gift and it's not the amount or the quality she asked for. If she's less than overjoyed. She's an ingrate and you've learned a lesson VERY cheaply.
8. If she suggests marriage within the first 3-5 months. Run
9. If you suggest marriage and she wants to stay in country if you want to leave, or leave the country if you want to stay. RUN FASTER
10. If she asks to buy property under both names. Don't even look back.
11. If her friends are all hooked up with foreign boyfriends. Baby. I GUARANTEE she has another one on tap just in case.
12. If you have access to her email, online profile or dating service account because she "trusts you" and to prove that she has no secrets or anything to hide. Think again. She's has more than one profile STUPID.
13. If you ALWAYS pay the bill for food or vacations or whatever and does not make some attempt to pick up the bill once in a while. Man. She's riding you. I don't care how poor a person is. Dignity has no price. You are not a [snip]ing WALLET.
14. If you invite her out to a meal and she brings relatives or a friend (or even her son or daughter without specifically asking you)and you pick up the tab and she makes no effort to have these deadbeats put in something in the pot to pay the bill. YOU ARE OFFICIALLY A PENDEJO MARRANO. And they are laughing their asses off at your expense.
I'll give you an example. "hey prima. What are you doing tonight". She says "nothing. Going out with the gringo tonight. ". They answer back "can we come. We're hungry and we know the wallet will take care of us. Hahahahahah". She answers. " no sean malo con mi gringo. Ok. Meet us at so and so".
15. If she does or go to different places when you're stateside. Ask yourself why she didn't do or go to those places when you were there.
16. If you constantly call to see if she's home on the weekends and if she's not there you become suspicious. YOU ARE IN AN UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP and she has a local novio you moron.
17. If you don't speak the language and have locals vouch for your woman. (this is a new one). The one vouching is probably screwing your girl.
18. If she's way younger than you and you're less than attractive, out of shape and bald. She doesn't love you because you're one of the nice ones and not like those mean Colombian men that don't know how to treat a lady. In other words. Have no money.
Be a realist man. If she's a piece of ass. You nail it. You don't marry it. She's not diggin' your bald head. She's diggin' the bald eagle on your currency and passport.
19. If she's always hanging out with a male cousin (this is very much the case in the DR too. Hahahaha. God you have to give it to the gringo brothers). It's not a cousin. It's a boyfriend.
20. Don't ever. Ever. Ever help your Colombian girlfriend get a tourist, student or work visa.
21. If she says she loves you, and you know her less than 3 Months (continious) and have sex with her less than 10 times, and have not spent significant time with her family, and definitely, if you are not in an exclusive relationship , or if she has broken any of the other above "Red Flag Rules" DONT BELIEVE HER AND RUN LIKE HELL
22. If she goes on a retreat or vacation with "Friends" and doesnt ask you along, unless there is a clear , logical reason,..be afraid...
23. If she takes something of yours without asking, no matter how small, she's a Ladrona (thief)
24. If she asks the waiter for "Una cosa para llevar" for her lunch tomorow, after you paid for her supper, shes taking advantage of you. Dump her.

Many of us on this forum are 'seasoned' expats or travellers and have some experience with Colombianas. Some of it may have been bad and some of it has probably been good ......... but I think perhaps our mate elexpatriado is probably the only one that has actually experienced all 24 of the above 'flags' jajajajajaja

If you replace Colombiana with Panamanian you nailed it for the ex-gf there, she scores about a 20 out of 25, although I am not fat or bald .
Craziest Colombiana encounter - on second and last date the chick wanted me to buy her a new scooter

We are the "gringos," the guys with the money. Who knows what they've been watching on TV, but it's instilled in their heads.
Therefore, it's goes without exception that we're expected to be generous, after all we're rich, aren't we?
I'm sure, if the truth be known, we all faced either one or many of those situations, and perhaps very frequently.
It goes with the territory coming from a supposedly rich country and living in a poor one.
The trick is how to deal with it, Run! If it's not too late!

To be fair - should probably have another list for Colombianas - warning signs when you meet a gringo, a few I can think of:
Stay away from a gringo who has on sandals, black socks and a Hawaiian shirt , or guys who walk around Medellin in fishing shirts from Bass Pro Shops.
Run if the gringo says his house back in the States has wheels.
While there are good reasons for gringos to be cautious with Colombianas - its a two way street , I have met a number of whackoo's in Medellin ( I am sure no one who posts here however )

They dont care, and neither does the desperate Colombiana that goes with them... Most of these girls, Nice guy or wierdo, doesnt matter...Charles Manson or Oskar Dirlwanger could invite them to San Andreas and they would still go.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oskar_Dirlewanger

This guy is so far away from me I can't even identify. I knew my wife for over two years before I set foot in Colombia. She was self sufficient, owned her Apt., car plus equity in 2 other properties and her retirement SS is more than mine. We designed and built our retirement home for RETIREMENT. We don't party much, we do travel (cruises etc.) and now built a second house and garage basically as a guest house for her family. Our combined SS retirements put us in the top 10% of wage earners in Colombia and neither one of us touch our "nest eggs". We live well, prudent but well and buy whatever the hell we want to or need. We are somewhat cautious, we live in our Finca that's in a private Parcelacion of 2,500 acres and gate guarded 24/7 with hourly patrols by guards on Moto's plus we have strategically located video cams that are continually monitored by the guards. I have 9 of these surveillance cameras on a monitor in my house. My point, Colombia is like most of the 24 other countries I have worked in, you simply have to provide your own means of safety BECAUSE some of the worst S.O.B's in the world are in Colombia and they will rob or kill you for a few pennies. My lot at night is lit up like a Christmas tree and I have 2 dogs that let me know if anyone is within a country mile. I never got into the dating thing like the guy in the video but this Turkey is an old Hippie who is warning about the OBVIOUS if you have a brain. It seems as though he paid the price but looking at him I don't doubt it. He looks like what he is, an adventurer and as such like the Monkey screwing the Skunk said, you "take the bitter with the sweet". I didn't come here on a "flyer", I came here to retire and live the rest of my life in a Paradise I created for myself.

Bitter old hippie, no wonder nobody in Latin America wants to have an extended conversation with him - get to the point dude! Listening to him in his native language is excruciating enough I imagine its even worse in Spanish.

I not going to defend this guy, why would I? Obviously he's sore about losing his house in Peru, not being able to jaw with the locals, and condemning peoples attitudes there about gringo gringos. I posted it only because of what he say's about learning the language and his attitude about the locals considering him a wallet, nothing more. I saw another post of his that said why he really left and went back to the States was because he missed his friends. But I don't remember him saying anything about dating or the women in general.

I would go as far as saying that Billforce' situation is unusual, a well to do retiree having found a woman here which is even better off than he is. I for one am the other extreme, with a minimal retirement income, a wife who came from from a very poor but hard working family but has a heart of gold. Recently her 83 year old dad came down with severe chest pain and doctors suggested open heart surgery as a last resort but the hospital which would take in patients with the mediocre insurance called Emssanar (an equivalent of the Red Cross) stabilized him but refused the surgery because of his age. I suggested taking him to a private clinic. They would do the surgery for three million pesos. I offered to pay half and to collect the other half from family members. One son chipped in 500, a daughter 100, a niece 50, an other niece 100 and little by little the money was complete and the surgery took place. That was 3 weeks ago and the patient is recovering nicely. He was never over-weight, a smoker or had diabetes which helped me a lot in the decision.

Similar to my wife's family, would not call them poor just typical middle class in Medellin, with some doing better than others, everyone tries to help others according to their financial abilities. No one has asked me to foot the entire bill for anything , just to help on occasion when others are chipping in, at times my percentage might be a little higher but then my income is quite a bit more. I would hate to work for Colombian wages. When we are out with family and friends the bill is split evenly , and if they invite me - they pay, I am considered a guest. Not really much different than in the States.
If family friends look at you as an ATM, one needs to do a better job in picking them

Didnt you ever hear him going on and on about his $16 million dollar company he owns. Do you really think a self sufficient Medical doctor (of whatever age) is gonna hook up with an 80 year old non Spanish Speaking grouch on Social Service income?
